We had the good fortune of connecting with Carlos Enis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carlos, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in Berkeley, CA and was raised in Southern California. My background heavily impacts who I am today, as well as the goals I have set for myself. My mother is a single parent who raised my brother and I on her own, while working two jobs and earning a Bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley. My biggest influences growing up were all driven independent women who made ends meet on their own, while raising multiple children. My grandmother (mom’s side) immigrated from Mexico to Southern California and worked several jobs to provide for her four children, which she also raised on her own. Watching these women care for their children, struggle through multiple jobs, and still be able to make miracles happen is the reason why I expect so much of myself. I create ambitious goals for myself in acting, modeling, and in my business ventures so that I can be in the position to take care of my family so that they never have to struggle again. While my mother and grandmother would love for me to earn a bachelor’s degree, they understand that I am on a different path.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The art that I create through modeling and social media is one that promotes self-improvement and dedication. One of the reasons why I love modeling is because it allows me to inspire people to accomplish their own goals. I have friends who have dreamt of modeling for years but have been too afraid to take action. These same friends have seen my growth as a model and have come to me filled with excitement, telling me how my progress has inspired them to step out of their comfort zone and give it a try. I enjoy helping those who are interested in modeling because I would not be where I am today if it were not for the advice I applied from those more experienced than me. I have other friends who are capable of achieving their artistic dreams if they would just believe in themselves. Being able to professionally express yourself as a creative is a path that is not taken by many people. It is not taught in schools and is often discouraged because it does not guarantee a “safe” paycheck. I got to where I am today professionally by believing in myself. I manifested my dream, then created smaller goals which would guide me to accomplishing it. I continue to work towards achieving other goals by being consistent with my efforts. One of the most important lessons that I have learned along the way is that anything worth accomplishing takes time. I want the world to know that the path of an artist/creative is not easy at all. Nothing is guaranteed, you will be discouraged by those around you, and it most likely will not happen as quickly as you would like. However, if you are passionate about what you create and it brings you joy, pursue it. Create goals which will lead you to living the dream you envision. The ability to provide for yourself through the art you create is what makes the process all that much more worth it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were to visit the area I would take them to all of the places that bring me joy and peace. The first place we would visit would be a local YMCA to play basketball and workout. After our workout I would treat them to my favorite fruit spot, where they have these delicious açaí bowls with a dragon fruit pitaya base. We would then visit a special beach that my mother would take my brother and I to when we were younger. I would encourage my best friend to take a lyft with me because some of the most valuable conversations I have had have been with lyft drivers full of life experience. After some insightful conversations with the driver, we would have a picnic at the beach where we paint and enjoy the sunset afterwards. We would spend the next day reading some of my favorite books and reflecting on our journey, the obstacles we have overcome, and the goals we would like to accomplish. In my view some of the most interesting people in the world are those that have gone through the toughest times but maintain a positive attitude. The mindset that these people maintain is inspirational and reminds me that whenever I am going through a struggle, there are better days ahead of me.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my Tio (uncle). My tio took my mother, brother and I in when we moved to Southern California. He would leave work early, drive an hour in traffic, pick us up from school to take us to our football practices and games. My tio taught me how to shave, how to carry myself with respect, how important it is to be observant, and also showed me the value of helping others. Whenever I would go to work with him I always paid attention to the way his co-workers respected him and admired his dedication. His co-workers and friends would always look to him for guidance and would never hesitate to ask him for advice. On top of the teaching me the importance of hardwork, he was the first to open my mind to the idea of financial freedom. Growing up I would hear him talk about how real estate is one of the greatest investments there was. From him describing the value of turning vacant land in LA into parking lots to owning apartment complexes and renting them out, he would drop entrepreneurial seeds throughout my child which would inspire me to study different investment strategies once I grew older. A great portion of the business ventures I currently work on were inspired by my Tio.
