Meet Carlos Prieto Velasco | Painter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carlos Prieto Velasco and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carlos, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I know what I am and why I do it. I’m sure I share this inexcusable need that drives us and forces us to be an artist with many colleagues, but…
…often, I am invaded by the curiosity to know if all of you who dedicate your life to art appreciate it from the same perspective or are other motivations the ones that provoke and condition your creativity.
The general public sees the artist’s work as an idyllic occupation or understands it from a romantic approach, although reality does not have much to do with these perceptions today.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
(Palma de M. 1987) Child prodigy and valued Spanish artist. Anachronistic painter. His paintings seem to belong to another epoch, his palette reminds of the last century. Provokateur of eroticism and sensuality of women. Carlos Prieto is a painter- a self educated post- impressionist of the last century, defender of beauty and classical painting.
Faithfully sticking to his classical style of the artists of the last century, avoiding short-term trends and present fashions. His consideration is, trends are passing by, but classic has persistence and finds its place in eternity.
“We live in one of the hardest times for painting – especially for romantic faithful souls who want to protect figurative beauty. I am tired seeing all those deceptions in galleries and exhibitions. I honestly miss the real art, the smell of colors and the oil of turpentine.
Currently the Spanish actor is living in Rome, craving for new inspirations, and planning to stay in Italy for long-term. At the moment he is preparing a new collection named “D’amore si vive”, inspired by the film of Silvano Agosti. He is seeking to be reborn as a painter under the sky in the eternal city.
His intention is to create a great exhibition, presen- ting himself as the Spanish artist in the wonderful city of Rome.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Mallorca Undoubtedly, the most emblematic place to enjoy the sunset in Mallorca. A rocky ledge on the coast, a strategically placed natural circle and crazy colours. This could be the summary of a small corner in the middle of the Mallorcan coast. We are in the Sierra de Tramontana between Valldemossa and Deià, a place where mountains full of vegetation join the sea through steep cliffs.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Carlos Prieto describes himself “as a shy and introverted person”, and it was precisely this “naturalness and warmth” that caught the attention and captivated Yelain Santoyo and Ventura González Pereira. «That they bet on me and my work is a challenge and I am very excited and grateful». Miami Art Basel is synonymous with “nights of exhibitions and parties, a setting for meetings, a lot of networking and with this the creation of new alliances”, so “my proposal for next year will not be a classic exhibition and use It will go further.”
Throughout this year, more details of this project by Carlos Prieto for Art Basel in Miami will be revealed, which will take place as usual in the well-known Wynwood neighborhood and will bring the visitor closer to the Mallorcan roots of this painter. Prieto acknowledges that “none of this” would have happened without the help of his “colleague” Domingo Zapata, who “is well known in Miami and all my thanks go to him, especially for the fact that someone who has succeeded remembers him.” help others, as is my case”, he concludes.
