We had the good fortune of connecting with Carol Moon Frazier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carol, what are you inspired by?
Life is filled with so many celebrations of beautiful color! From a little girl, my Mom and Dad taught me to really see and appreciate God’s creation – intricacies of a flower, the brilliance of a sunset, peaceful stroll on a white sandy beach, the playful breeze in a tall field, the immense majesty and movement of the ocean…the list goes on. What catches my eye and captures my heart to this day are the colors and contrast found in these everyday treasures.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being swept up in a painting is really all about the story, isn’t it…my story, your story. It’s such a privilege for me to be invited into someone’s life, and I so look forward to any chance I have to listen to a new friend recreate their life scene that connects them to one of my pieces. One of the greatest joys in my life is to add significantly to another’s. It’s just icing on the cake that I have so much fun doing it!
I’m incredibly blessed to have recently joined an artist community, and now have a studio space outside my home. Being surrounded by fellow creatives stretches me, grows me, and inspires me. My studio is located in the Legacy Place Shoppes, Palm Beach Gardens location of Zero Empty Spaces. What a great idea! Take empty spaces in our surrounding area and for a lower than normal rent rate make them available for artists like myself to create in and to sell from. Talk about supporting the arts!
I believe one of the secrets to really any professional growth is consistency…keep going. The creative arts are no exception. There are times during the many years I’ve been painting that this has been easy, but honestly more often it’s taken a perseverance and dedication to simply not stopping. This push-through has paid off, as these days I no longer hesitate to keep going knowing that I’m absolutely designed to do this.
I’m a self-taught life-long student of art. Creating tends to teach me quite a bit about myself as well. As an example, I had to work through that whole don’t-want-painting-to-become-a-job-so-I-can’t-treat-it-like-a-business thing. And over time I did! I haven’t lost any of my passion since transitioning from hobby mentality to being career minded, if anything I’m actually more excited about it all and things are continuing to open up.
In recent years my sweet Dad used to support my art by sending me interesting articles, telling me how beautiful my paintings were, asking how I was feeling and thinking while paint certain things, or where I came up with my content…you know, just being interested. During one such conversation when I was going through one of the hardest times in my life and could barely pick up a brush, he asked me why I didn’t paint from my hurt and sadness like so many artists have talked about. My answer was simple…”Dad, even if I started out painting from that darkness I’d still end up with bright colors, beautiful nature, and fun palette knife strokes. It’s not that I’m in denial, I just hold so strongly to the reality that God is good, I have so many blessings, and things will be ok. My art is about those things.”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My husband, John, and I moved to Palm Beach County from Nashville, TN in October 2021. Years ago my Mom and Dad owned a second home for the family to gather here, so I’ve spent time quite a bit of time in this area. My parents had planned to make the house here their permanent residence, leaving the harsh winters in the Chicago suburbs behind and walking off into the beach sunset together. Unfortunately my Mom’s dementia progressed and Dad made the tough decision to sell that house. I say all that to say that, especially since my Dad joined my Mom in Heaven this past March, John and I love it here and feel so blessed to have the opportunity to live out our own dream…the same as theirs.
In my opinion this area of Florida is the place to be! There is no shortage of fun things to do and places to go. We are total foodies and I think it’s safe to say that we’ve made a sport out of trying all the amazing restaurants and bars. We live on Hwy 1 in the Juno Beach area and are still coming up with a list of favorite haunts. Almost any of the places with good food and water view are good with me. We do love the Jupiter Inlet, for instance. I’m an animal lover too so we love the zoos, manatee hangouts, and saving the turtles. Coming from Nashville, we’re always on the hunt for fun places to dance to some great cover bands. Downtown West Palm Beach has continued to progress over the years, and Clamatis…what can I say! I also love the Rosemary Ave. area with all it’s great (plant based) restaurant options and fun shops. I’ve also been told that I have to go to an art walk at The Peach…very excited to check it out! My niece lives very close to the Wynwood Art District in Miami so I’ll be visiting there as well. I’ll have to make her promise we’ll get drinks the Fontainebleau, as it’s one of my favorites.
I’m a professional photographer as well and Florida nature, beaches, and it’s wildlife are just simply the best. Since I find painting inspiration from much of my own photos I’m sure what I love so much will be showing up more and more in my work.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents had an intense love of nature and did a wonderful job passing that appreciation and love on to me. My art represents part of the sweet bond that lives on between me and my Mom. God gifted her with the ability to see this world through the eyes of an artist, and with the wonder, appreciation, and enthusiasm to match. I think of her so often and know she’d be thrilled that I am passionately living my artistic dreams. In addition, I continue to be blessed by the support and encouragement of very important people in my life, as well as some wonderful art mentors I’ve had over the years. They remind me in so many ways to fly boldly in the face of hesitation and refuse to do less than freely and joyfully create!
