Meet Carolina Herrera | Founder & Owner of Emotions Matter / Licensed Mental Health Counselor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carolina Herrera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carolina, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I believe my business helps the community by fostering emotional well-being and personal growth. At Emotions Matter, our mission is to help individuals connect with their authentic selves, embrace their unique journeys, and prioritize their mental, emotional, and physical health.
I believe mental health is the foundation for a healthier society. By strengthening one’s mental health, I help promote emotional well-being, encourage self-care, and support personal growth in my practice.
Ultimately, I believe we can create a ripple effect—when individuals thrive, it strengthens their relationships with others, benefiting their families, workplaces, and the community as a whole.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career has been a journey fueled by hard work, dedication, and a deep passion for helping others. Initially, I worked full-time as a fitness studio manager, which allowed me to work closely with people and employees one-on-one. This experience was invaluable in developing my interpersonal skills, customer service abilities, and leadership skills as I learned how to manage a team effectively. I learned the importance of meeting people where they are and understanding that everyone learns and applies things differently.
At one point, I was managing a fitness studio, working nights at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital helping to run an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and maintaining a social life. Balancing these responsibilities taught me resilience, time management, and perseverance. When I finally became licensed, I began my journey toward starting my own practice. I’ve always had a vision of creating a space where people can come for comprehensive wellness services — and this vision is embodied in my practice, Emotions Matter. My goal is to grow Emotions Matter into a multi-practitioner, private mental health practice, and eventually into a wellness-centered hub where clients can find support for all aspects of their health and well-being in one place.
Along the way, I’ve learned many lessons — patience, persistence, and resilience. I’ve faced setbacks and long nights, but each challenge has helped me grow stronger and more committed. Looking back, I am proud of what I’ve accomplished and excited for what’s ahead. I am dedicated to continuing my journey of growth, service, and innovation through Emotions Matter, and I look forward to making a positive and lasting impact in my community.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I enjoy staying active, so I would start the week by introducing my friend to a great workout. One of my favorites is Barry’s Bootcamp, and I’d schedule a class in midtown Miami. Afterward, we’d grab breakfast at one of the many excellent restaurants in the area to fuel up for the day.
Later, I’d treat us to a relaxing scrub massage at my favorite spa located at The Standard in Miami Beach. We would spend the afternoon at the spa and pool area, enjoying the beautiful surroundings and dining at their poolside restaurant, Lido, until sunset—it’s a perfect way to unwind.
The next day, I’d take us for a shopping excursion at Merrick Park in Coral Gables. It’s a lovely outdoor shopping experience set in a lush, scenic setting. In the evening, I’d make reservations at my all-time favorite restaurant, Hillstone in Coral Gables, where I always order the same meal—sushi and spinach/artichoke dip.
For entertainment, I’d love to catch a show or concert, soaking in some live music and good vibes. Another highlight would be a boat day out on the ocean—jet skis, relaxing on the water, listening to music, and indulging in fresh seafood.
Finally, I’d take my friend for a run across the Key Biscayne Bridge, enjoying the stunning ocean views and refreshing breeze. It’s a scenic, invigorating experience that truly captures the beauty of the area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to the Psychiatry team at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. This is where I truly found my passion for therapy and developed a deep appreciation for providing mental health care. Their support, mentorship, and dedication have truly shaped my journey and inspired me to make a difference in the lives of my patients.
