Meet Cartela | Cartela | Creator and Director of Muneli in Space

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cartela and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cartela, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is my support system. I have an amazing family and a super supportive group of friends. Im big on keeping the right influences around me. This is also a team thing, my team of artist vomit talent on the daily. Their patience with my sets us up for success, it takes a lot to bring alive a whole new cartoon and give it purpose.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Art is a big part of my life, being that I come from a long bloodline of creatives. I started painting professionally in 2019, and since then things really took off in the best possible way. I loved seeing peoples reactions to my paintings and to see the emotions people felt while looking at my art. I have always been a big fan of cartoons and animations, painting The Simpsons, Rick and Morty, and many other cartoons while using USD as a mixed media, is what I became known for. Though I gained quick popularity for my style, I didn’t feel original; after all, I’m painting characters that belong to other artists. After months of creative block due to covid and all the anxiety it brought; I found the light. I pushed myself out of this dark place the media tried to portray on us, and started sketching and writing a story. This story was something that pulled me out of reality. I created a whole new galaxy, planet, and species; I guess you can say this is somewhere I wish I was. The perfect world where love is at the top of the priority list. This has developed to be an animated series named Muneli in Space, which I am now directing and writing. I believe that through this animation Muneli will be able to comfort and give love to Planet Earth and its humans.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Lets say Muneli was visiting and I wanted to show this little alien a good time.. id go to Wynwood. get some ice cream, eat watermelons together, go to local dispensaries. I guess it all depends on Muneli’s mood, I’d do whatever Muneli wants to do.
