We had the good fortune of connecting with Cesar Lazarus and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cesar, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
It’s really just understanding what you’re capable of doing. Every small accomplishment brings a rush of confidence so learning to channel that into your work can allow anyone to go beyond. Giving up doesn’t exist in my language because there’s no such thing as a true ending except death. Life keeps going, so you give it your all.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I create art in a way musicians mix tracks: bringing existing material and telling new stories through them. I accomplish this by compositing different aspects of the images and applying rich symbols to emphasize the story I’m telling. Coming this far in my career was definitely challenging, from discovering my style to understanding how social media works. I’m forever grateful to be recognized by other creatives in my field, bestowing me the opporrtunity to appear on Adobe Max in 2020, shown in Times Square, and explore the new NFT community. In the end, my best advice for everyone is to be patient and be persistent with their passions. People will recognize that confidence and eventually you’ll reap the rewards!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wynwood will always be my biggest recommendation for a visiting best friend. Not only will we check out all the dope murals, but we’d also go to all the hot spots for food like Coyo Taco, World Famous House of Mac, and Panther Coffee. Nothing beats an extra cup of coffee or some Philadelphia-styled Mac and Cheese!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
If it wasn’t for my dad, Hugo, who introduced me to so many experiences in entertainment, I would never have gone this far in my career. His skills as a poet are brought to video, which gave him the opportunity to win an Emmy for a documentary in the Everglades. His wisdom, practicality, and mentorship are gifts that I’ll forever cherish.
