We had the good fortune of connecting with Cesar Miguel Golindano Espanol – Matic and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cesar Miguel, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from Venezuela, My family and I moved to the states when I was 14 years old, kind of feels like life and ages ago, and I’ve gotten the privilege of having opportunities that many people my age would never think or even dreamed of having.
It has been somewhat of a curse, and at some point in my life I did view it as that, as the worst thing that could ever happen to anyone because you leave behind something that you thought was your world and now that world has vanished and you gotta start from zero.
I was just a kid but I believe that is something that can be very impactful to anyone no matter what age.
When we arrived in the states, growing up I was always attracted to music and creation, I was very into drawing and art and to some point thought that my purpose was to be a painter or an architect.
My father didn’t support that as he saw that it was just simply a hobby and with that mindset it affected me in a way that made me forget about it and view it simply as a hobby, nothing else. As I got enrolled into school and started to see this world that I never imagined, people from another county all stuck in one place, and mostly another language to dominate.
Luckily people spoke Spanish but nonetheless, I felt like an outcast. Through that turmoil, stress, parents fighting cause they were also stressed about money, the family, music was the one thing that held me together.
I was fascinated by Hip-Hop, rap, jazz, soul, reggae, and other genres but Hip-hop was the one that stuck the most to me, I read all lyrics from all songs, looked up all words, meanings and synonyms, I even bought myself a dictionary. I was so infatuated by it that I looked like I was going insane, but that is how music got to me, with people like Eminem, 50 cent, Dr. Dre, Ice cube, Biggie, Mos Def, Kendrick, J Cole, Mac Miller and many others became my teachers and thanks to them within a year I was able to speak the language.
I believe my upbringing fueled the person that I am today by following what I always wanted to do through all my life. I’ve been told by role models and also people around me that I would not be able to do something or that things were impossible to reach and that never with me and I know it sounds cliché, but Music for me or something that always came back. It was always there for me to come for me to heal me and to talk to me. It was just what kept me grounded to reality.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think my art is unique, but I think everybody else’s art is unique and I don’t think it sets me away from anybody else but the whole point of me making art is to connect with people, so I don’t know I guess that’s how I think.
The music mostly, the composition of it, is very weird because sometimes people ask how do I write or how do I come up with all the things that I come up with and I do not have an answer for it because I feel like its just something coming from god or I don’t know, the Melodies, I am simply a passenger or maybe the vessel from which music is created from.
I think one thing that I would like the world to know is that I am just like you and that we are more alike than what you think, I feel like my main purpose apart from creating is to connect and use my words spread a message and communicate in ways that simple conversations may not be able to, simply convey a message.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, my favorite spot to go get a drink is the Fox lounge down by US1, Simply because I like the vibe and the tone and the drinks are great specially the espresso martini, nice aesthetics, literally feel like I am somewhere else whenever I go there.
To eat I’ll say tacos and tattoos not only because the tacos are amazing but also locally made, shoutout to Jay Cruz, the Bori of Kendall.
Last, to hang out I’ll probably go down to the Biscayne Bridge and find a spot to have a good view of the city, maybe have more drinks and just talk about life.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Want to thank Fernando, Willie, Gabriel,Brent and all those individuals that just were there for me and fueling my motivation and have held me when no one else was there to help me.
Javier and Gustavo for Showing me that you don’t need much to create just the love for it is enough.
I would like to thank my girlfriend Gabriela for putting up with the stress and those late nights she was just there supporting me when she would have easily been mad or pissed, but no, she was there for me, supporting me by my side.
I also want to thank myself and God as is.
I believe everything is possible and anything can be done, with just a little bit of faith, and the moments where I thought I was lost the sun was always right there in front of me shining, reminding me that I am still alive and hence everything will be alright.
