We had the good fortune of connecting with Chanae Wood and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chanae, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from Miami Gardens, Florida—a vibrant city with the largest Black population in the state. Growing up in a faith-filled household with my parents, who are pastors, and nine siblings shaped so much of who I am today. Our home was always full—full of love, personalities, and purpose. Navigating such a big family taught me how to lead, how to listen, and how to show up for people. My upbringing instilled deep values in me—integrity, hard work, and the importance of serving others. And no matter where I go or what I do, I carry my culture and community with me. It’s influenced how I work, how I lead, and how I connect with people from all walks of life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career has been anything but linear, but that’s what makes it beautiful. I’m a municipal and land use attorney by profession, serving communities through law and policy. I’m also the founder of ROM8 Wellness, a faith-based wellness brand that merges spiritual, mental, and physical transformation. And most recently, I became an author—using my voice to encourage others grieving the loss of their loved ones.

What sets me apart is my heart. I don’t just show up to work—I show up with intention. Whether I’m in a council meeting, speaking at an event, or encouraging someone online, I lead with authenticity and a deep sense of purpose. I believe that faith and professionalism aren’t mutually exclusive—I bring both to the table unapologetically.

Getting here wasn’t easy. There were seasons of doubt, closed doors, and inner battles. I’ve had to overcome imposter syndrome, burnout, and moments where I questioned whether I was truly called to do the work I’m doing. But each time, God reminded me that I was built for this. I leaned on prayer, community, and my “why.”

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that your story is your superpower. I used to run from parts of mine—struggles with body image, moments of failure, fear of not being “enough.” But now I know those experiences are exactly what qualify me to lead, to inspire, and to serve.

What I want the world to know is that ROM8 Wellness is more than a brand—it’s a movement. It’s for every woman who’s ever felt unseen, stuck, or unsure of how to start over. It’s a reminder that you can rewrite your story, that faith and discipline can coexist, and that your transformation isn’t just physical—it’s spiritual.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting for a week, I’d make sure she experienced Miami through my lens—peaceful mornings, intentional wellness, good food, beautiful spaces, and a touch of luxury. Here’s how we’d spend the week:

Day 1: Mind + Body Reset
We’d start the morning with a solid workout at UFC Fit—nothing like a good sweat to kick things off. Then we’d head to Crack’d for breakfast. The Country Breakfast is always my pick—hearty and satisfying.

After a quick refresh, we’d head to Fontainebleau for a full spa day. Their spa is next level. From the steam rooms to massages, it’s my favorite place to unwind. We’d enjoy lunch poolside, letting the sun and stillness do its thing.

Dinner that night: Red Rooster in Overtown—the food, the music, and the cultural depth always leave me inspired.

Day 2: Brickell Beauty
We’d take a slow morning walk on Brickell Key, followed by a fresh juice or matcha. Then it’s time for a Club Pilates session—something I’ve been wanting to try, and it’s the perfect low-impact strength and stretch combo.

After class, we’d brunch at Little Hen—one of my absolute favorites. Everything from the floral décor to the tea service makes it feel like a dream.

Afternoon shopping or relaxing at Brickell City Centre, and for dinner, we’re heading to Sugar at EAST Hotel. The rooftop views are unmatched and the ambiance is everything.

Day 3: Calm & Connection
This would be our slow morning—tea, devotionals, and real conversations. Faith is a major part of my life, so this day would be about filling our cups spiritually.

We’d visit a peaceful beach like Bal Harbour—somewhere quiet and not overcrowded. Then maybe lunch at Le Zoo at the Shops.

Dinner: YOLO in Fort Lauderdale. It’s one of my go-to dinner spots—great atmosphere, and even better food.

Rest of the Week Musts:
• Brunch at Greenstreet Café in Coconut Grove for good vibes and even better French toast.
• A chill movie or self-care night with takeout likely from a Carribean restaurant and comfy clothes.
• Sunday church service for that spiritual grounding and gratitude reset.

The whole week would be centered around feeling good from the inside out—wellness, great company, beautiful moments, and God at the center.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes first and foremost to my parents. I often say that I’m not self-made—I’m God-made. Everything I have, everything I’ve become, is by His grace. And I’m so grateful that my parents introduced me to the Lord at a young age. Their love, support, and unwavering encouragement have carried me through some of life’s toughest seasons. They’ve modeled what it means to walk in faith, lead with integrity, and love without conditions. I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without their influence and the foundation they laid for my life.
