We had the good fortune of connecting with Chantal Lapeyre and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chantal, what do you attribute your success to?
I think the most important factor that has led me to my success is consistency! When most people start their own business, they want it to blow up in a span of days and start making tons of money. The reality is unless you are a huge influencer or celebrity with tons of followers, it’s going to take a lot of time and dedication. We live in a world of instant gratification where everyone expects things quickly and fast. Starting a business is a lot different than that and that’s where consistency comes into play. Grinding every day even if you don’t see sales, posting consistently on all social media platforms even if no one is liking or commenting. It’s those little actions every day that will eventually lead you to the results and success you want to see. Small business owners know it can get extremely discouraging when you feel like you are stagnant but that’s where you push the most! I believe hard work pays off and owning a business is a perfect example of that!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The fact that all our jewelry is tarnish-free and waterproof for an affordable price has to be what I’m most proud of. It’s an in-between of expensive high-end jewelry and cheap jewelry that tarnishes quickly. My business is not even close to where I want it to be, but I’m definitely proud of how far I’ve gotten. There’s been lots of learning and trial and error throughout the process and it can feel discouraging. I used to feel like there was so much progress to be made and I was so far from where I wanted to be with my business. I learned to step back for a second and have patience every step of the way. I needed to trust myself and the hard work and time I was putting in. I also learned to have fun with it and remember that it didn’t need to be a race! As a college student with another part-time job, it can get stressful and overwhelming, so remembering to be patient and have fun definitely lifted me up a lot of times. I want others to know that nothing is unachievable or impossible if you truly want it. When I first started my business last year, I decided that failure was not going to be an option. To this day, I work every day keeping that in mind as well as believing in myself.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My personal favorite spot is Key Biscayne! I love going on runs along the bridge and looking over at the ocean and the nice views. Highly recommend Crandon park for the beach and Kayaking as well as Bill Baggs Park. I’ve heard great things about the restaurant Novecento and Puroast cafe for a quick coffee stop!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would have to dedicate my shoutout to my mom! She also co-founded two businesses of her own as an immigrant from Cuba and zero English. I really look up to her and the way she grew both businesses from the ground up. I think growing up with parents that owned businesses changed my perspective on how I wanted to live my life and support myself in the future. They taught me that I can be capable of doing achieving anything I want and to believe in myself!
