We had the good fortune of connecting with Chantelle Kincy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chantelle, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’m not sure I had a thought process; it sort of just came to be. I knew I was tired of my career and always unsatisfied and unfulfilled. I started working on my own just as a side project to express myself, and then I had an injury that forced me out of my day job. That gave me more time to work independently; I had a whole business forming before I knew it.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is currently twofold. I write and produce content for my website, Flannels or FlipFlops, the Associated Press, MSN, and Wealth of Geeks. I like to entertain and inspire others to get out and see the world with my writing. I offer tips to simplify trip planning, easy-to-follow itineraries, and suggestions to maximize your limited vacation time.
I also am a travel advisor, where I plan custom itineraries for clients, taking the stress off of them so they can enjoy their vacations. But what I’m most proud of, and my current passion, is planning group trips for women.
I was in an abusive marriage for over 15 years, where I was not afforded the freedom or money to make my own choices or go anywhere. I was consistently told that I wasn’t capable of making good choices and that I wouldn’t ever be able to survive on my own. Once I was out of that situation, I started traveling with my 3 children. I immediately saw the joy that traveling provided, giving me confidence in myself and my decisions. As women, we often feel insecure or hesitant to do things, so I’ve found a passion for helping other women get out of their comfort zones through travel. I plan and host women’s group trips where they can explore the world, build confidence, make memories, and build new friendships in a safe and supported environment.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Is this for Miami or my city? Please let me know and I can circle back to this.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I need to shout out Laura Peters Abalos from Scale Your Travel Blog. I met Laura online, and she quickly became one of the most important people in my life and on my journey. She’s the ultimate cheerleader and motivator. She’s always available for me to bounce crazy ideas off of and encourages me to push forward and believe in myself.
I also owe a lot of my success to Jess Smith Coaching. Working with Jess has been life-changing, not just in business but in my personal life as well. She’s helped me through so many internal blocks I didn’t even know I had that have allowed me to overcome self-imposed limits and push myself further in life.
