We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlie Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charlie, what principle do you value most?
I’d have to say self-improvement is the most important principle to me. Mostly because I tried to apply it to every aspect of my life not just the YouTube channel. Whether that’s learning a new skill like editing or graphic design that can assist my business endeavors, or just consistently trying to improve my eating habits. Big or small the biggest thing I try to fight is complacency and not always striving to be the best version of myself each day. Although a lot of times you fall short I feel like you should always have the intent in effort to do so.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Primarily I run and edit The Then and Now Podcast. It’s a podcast that focuses on 3 different black nerds of three different generations. I am the youngest at 22 years of age, Otis being the second oldest in his late 20s, then Ethan being the oldest of the trio being in his early 40s. We mostly discuss nerd things like movies, cartoons, video, games, anime etc., But we also discuss the state in the world in our perspectives within It. For me it was particularly difficult to get started in this whole process due to the fact I’m also a full-time college student in my senior year. Meaning that I’ve had the balance my schoolwork with trying to build and grow a podcast. This has brought forth its own challenges like the occasional burnout or frustration, But I feel as though being consistent with this and learning and developing as many skills as I have in close to a year that we’ve been doing this has made me a stronger and better person mentally and spiritually. It’s allowed me to speak to people that have created a been a part of creating some favorite content that I’ve consumed growing up and how far memories of as well as shine light on other up and coming creators that hope to do the same. This has truly been a dream for me, and I can only hope for continued growth and success of the podcast going forward so that I can continue to not only build myself up but hopefully one day provide opportunities for other people there may be in my same shoes a year ago.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So, this is probably an unpopular opinion, but I personally enjoy at home gatherings like cookouts and barbecues. I myself being from a smaller rural area compared to the city, really enjoy being away from cities in general and having intimate gatherings with people that you love. I’d probably start off by cooking or assist in cooking some good food for everybody to enjoy while playing some great music. With me and my friends it’s usually leads to us dancing randomly in hilariously for hours until we have a deep conversation about something random. Then that leading to US playing some form of game or just watching a movie. A full like gatherings like these are invaluable and provide some of the best memories you can never have.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
They’re two people that I’d like to give a shout out to, my co-host, mentors, and brothers Otis East and Ethan Murphy. these guys are not only my family but another support system inside of business endeavors as well as just personal life. They’re always going to push me to be the best version of myself and provide me unconditional knowledge and love whenever they feel like I need it. I’m so thankful they’re in my life and I wouldn’t be where I am now without them.
