We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlotte Reece Stone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charlotte, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am originally from Richmond, VA but have slowly made my way down the East Coast. I definitely get my creativity from my mom- she is a brilliant and talented oil painter. Both of my parents have always been incredibly encouraging of my creative pursuits and I am so grateful for that.

I grew up with the sweetest dog named Rosie, who was really and truly my best friend and my muse for 17 and a half years. She passed away in May of last year, and I still credit her for my love of pets and pet photography.

I still primarily photograph pets, but I love to capture just about anything from products to headshots to events. I am a big softie, and I truly believe that photography is a universal language and a superpower that allows me to capture memories and emotions and freeze time.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I always say that my art is bright, clean, and colorful- just like me. Whether it’s scrolling through social media or browsing websites, captivating visuals are the key to catching our attention and sparking our interest.

Think about it—when you stumble upon a stunning photograph, it grabs hold of your senses. It draws you in, making you stop, look, and explore further. That’s the magic of photography in the business world. It’s all about creating a visual story that resonates with your audience. That is my ultimate goal as a photographer.

It took lots of hard work, sweat, and many many tears to get to where I am today, especially through COVID, and I feel like I am still only getting started. I work both as a full-time in-house studio photographer as well as freelance, and one of the biggest things I have learned is to never give up and never stop learning and putting yourself out there. The photo world is subjective, but the more you know, the more work you create, and the more people you connect with, the more valuable you become as a creative.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a big big foodie, so I love this question! In my neck of the woods, I love Pasta And… for a date night and Crocante Bakery for Venezuelan sweets and coffee. Farther south, my favorite place is Patio Bar & Pizza, which is an outdoor courtyard in downtown Ft. Lauderdale surrounded by a wine bar, pizza spot, bars, and live music.

Of course, everyone wants to visit the beach, but honestly I’m not a huge beach person. I love going on long walks in Fern Forest or Sawgrass Trailhead, especially during sunset, and taking in the nature and wildlife. For those who have not done it before, I highly recommend an airboat tour in the Everglades. On the weekends, one of my newfound favorite activities is going to YellowGreen Farmer’s Market to drink, eat and shop (in that order)! I am also a plant lady, so I love to explore the Flamingo Gardens, Living Color Garden Center, or there are several botanical gardens in Palm Beach.

My favorite place to visit, however, is my own back porch with a glass of wine. Nothing can beat it!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are too many people who played a part in my story to thank, but I can think of a few! First and foremost, I would like to thank my family for supporting my dreams throughout my childhood, and for sending me to art school. I would like to thank my professors and classmates at SCAD, my alma mater, for encouraging me, mentoring me, and inspiring me. Lastly, I would like to thank my chosen family- my friends, colleagues, and especially my husband; for being my biggest cheerleaders and always lifting me up and cheering me on. My career would be nothing without them!
