We had the good fortune of connecting with Chazzy Productions and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chazzy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I was a teenager I used to edit dance videos for fun. As time went on, I finally bought a professional camera and started playing around with it. I started shooting videos just for fun and not for long, my hobby ended up turning into my full-time career. It wasn’t really something I ever thought of turning into a business. I was just having fun with cameras and editing. Once I had people offering me money I started the business and never looked back since this is something I have a lot of fun doing.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others in my field of work is my editing skills. A lot of people that shoot videos can be good with a camera but if you don’t know how to edit then the video can come out horrible. You can also waste a lot of money paying other people to edit for you. When it comes to my videos I shoot and edit the video all by myself. I know how to do a lot of VFX and transitions that other videographers can’t do. Editing videos with effects take a lot of work and I also get payed to edit videos also.
I’m the most proud of how long I been able to run my business without giving up. I been shooting videos professionally for 8 years now and never had to work a different job other then doing videos. I’m proud that I was able to create “Chazzy Productions” from the ground up all by myself. I’m proud that I can make a living to support myself with doing something I love. This is the coolest job I ever had and I can definitely say that I will be shooting videos for a very long time.
I got here professionally by word of mouth. When I shot my first music video it was shared all around South Florida. They would all show their friend my work and I eventually started shooting videos all around the world by people referring me.
It was definitely not easy. It took me years to learn how to edit. Once I got that down packed it was even harder to market my company. If you know how to advertise and market correctly you will always win in any business. Advertising my work was hard but I knew once I got eyes to see it I would eventually be able to charge a lot of money for my videos. Overcoming my challenges happened by me sharing my videos to people on social media. I also told a lot of my personal friends that I started to do videos professionally and once I started sharing my videos everywhere I finally found a good amount of clients to kick my business off.
My biggest lesson I learned is to stay consistent. Content is key. If I keep working on videos my business will never fail. Each video I finish editing is a good way for me to promote “Chazzy Productions” to new people. The more videos I’m able to get done, the more my company will grow.
Another lesson I learned in this industry is to not over due it (over-kill). Directing videos can be very tricky. If you write a script down and explain everything to the client your working with, the video will get done way smoother and much faster. You don’t want to waste time and camera/computer memory shooting footage you won’t use for the video. You want to get straight to the point so that you can get the project done as fast and easy as possible. Planning the video from start to finish is they key to film production. Another part of over-kill is camera equipment. Their are nice cameras out there that can get the job done for a cheap price. You can easily go broke spending too much money on equipment (camera bodys, lenses, lights, etc.) that you don’t need. With so many years doing this, a good lesson is to only buy camera gear that you know you can benefit off of for 10+ years down the line.
I want people to know that whatever you like to do for fun, turn it into a business. You will always be successful if you are doing something you love, I love creating art through visuals and since it’s a hobby I know I will be set with my dream job forever.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to Ruth Chris. I love food. Steak and Lobster is one of my favorites.
I would also take them to Montego Bay. The all inclusive hotels their are a lot of fun. You get to relax and ease your mind with all the beautiful views and good food. Sandals hotel was fun went I went, My hotel room had a pool inside which I loved!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shotout the underground music scene of St. Lucie County to getting me where I’m at today. Without shooting videos for them my work would have never got out to the world as fast as it did.
I would also like to give a shotout to my daughter Charm. She gives me motivation everyday to keep going no matter what.
