We had the good fortune of connecting with Che Hojas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Che, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I think it was something I always had in me, the desire to build—a longing to develop my dreams and paths instead of doing it for others. I appreciate teamwork and the safety of a work environment, but I could never quit pursuing creating an impact with my own work and creativity.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art has a very particular style that grew from following my curiosities. If I consider it, it resembles the aesthetic my childhood self would have loved.

Getting to where I am now professionally was not easy, and I still have a long way to go. I’ve been hard working and slowly growing for years, but I wasn’t always as clear as I am now, and clarity helps the process to be more effective.

Something I would like others to learn from my story is that clarity won’t arrive to you by thinking hard or a random epiphany, the more you do, explore and put into practice, then more your focus will start narrowing naturally.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m relatively new to Miami, but if my best friend was coming to visit (as she should!) I would probably first take her to St Augustine’s for a couple of days, it’s like 5 hours away, and it’s the first city in the country, its standing history, such a magical place. On the third day, I would probably have a more relaxed day, and I would take her to the cinematheque in Coral Gables to watch an indie movie. Then, we could grab some bubble tea and check out books & books (my favorite bookshop in town).
On the fourth day, I would spend it at the beach with some mate and have great conversations.
On the fifth day, I would bring her to the tattoo shop I work in to leave her a tattoo to remember her time here. I started tattooing recently, and it’s so much fun.
On the sixth day, I’d take her to Wynwood to see the murals and then to the museums.
Last day, probably to south beach to see the art deco architecture.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t even know where to begin. Of course, all the people who believe in me. And those who don’t, for challenging me to prove myself.

But honestly, the number of authors, life friends, podcast hosts, and YouTubers to whom I owe my knowledge, skills, and guidance is immense. Without a world where we have access to information that individuals (not systems) create, I wouldn’t have been able to follow my curiosities and learn all the different aspects of growing by yourself entail.
