We had the good fortune of connecting with Chebria Bryant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chebria, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I spent most of my life people pleasing, wanting to be accepted and not showing up in the world authentically myself. I used to believe the only way to be a good anything to anybody was defined by how well I served and catered to their needs. In 2019, I probably would’ve told you “this is the worst year of my life.” But, it actually was the year that changed the course of my life. My daughter’s father and I had went through a separation period that year and at first of course I was hurt. I wanted my family together and always dreamt of giving my kids a two-parent household. So I stayed trying to fight for my relationship but during the process I lost myself. I realized my identity was so tied to the relationship and in being a mom which led to burn out, anxiety, depression, frustration and resentment. I let go of myself physically, emotionally and mentally. My life was on autopilot. I woke up one day and decided, I cannot live my life like this and decided to move out. It was during that time of being separated, I started finding myself again. I went back to therapy, started building a personal relationship with God and leaned into my sisterhood. Today, I prioritize my self-care, give myself permission to evolve into the woman God called me to be unapologetically, accepted the past experiences for what they are and created experiences for myself that best align with the woman I want to become. Through my own process and sharing my experience through social media, I realized how many other women have the same struggles so this led to the birth of “The Unapologetic Woman.”

Also, through becoming unapologetically me, it made me not want to settle for anything in this lifetime including a 9-5. When I die, I want to die empty leaving nothing left to check off my list. My 9-5 isn’t currently utilizing everything I have to offer this world and I honestly hate being on someone else’s time. I just want a life where I’m not just looking forward to the weekends because I’m off work. I want a life where I’m excited for Mondays because I love what I do and I’m doing what I am called to do. I love to travel so I want to be able to work from any place or do not want to have to worry about my time being approved. I want to give my daughter the experiences I always dreamed of. She’s currently 3 but I want to be the mom involved in bake sales, PTA meetings, cheering her on at extracurricular activities and my 9-5 gets in the way of that.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
“The Unapologetic Woman” is not just a business to me. It’s a sacred space and it’s what I do daily for the women in my life. I never realized how hard it was for women to build authentic friendships because I’ve always been the person easily gravitated towards. I’m not judgmental and people are comfortable being themselves with me because I’m not perfect and I never want people to feel they have to be with me. Once hearing other women stories, the one thing they were lacking was authentic sisterhood and community. I think when we have a community we feel empowered to show up as our true selves in, it makes it easier to go out into the world to do the same. I know society likes to put women against each other but I believe we’re a force to be reckoned with when we come together. We’re all deserving of love, peace, opportunity, prosperity and abundance. There’s more than enough to go around so we should never have to compete with each other. When I see another woman winning, I clap for her and it always motivates me.

Outside of providing a sacred space for women, I just want women to embrace everything they’re made of. A lot of women are so unfulfilled in their daily roles because they’re not stepping into their full power. I commemorate the modern multi-dimensional woman. I love being a boss mom. I love God and gospel music but I also love me some Beyonce and Megan Thee Stallion lol. You shouldn’t have to choose or sacrifice parts of yourself. The things I tried to hide were the things God wanted to use through me to free other women too from the box they’ve placed themselves in.

The hardest part for me was putting myself out there. Being a person who has been rejected in the past for being themself, imposter syndrome starts to settle in. I start to think of the mistakes I’ve made in the past and think “am I even qualified to help other women?” But I’m learning to do things afraid and even when those doubts creep in. Faith plays a big part in my business and when those doubts creep in,I know the enemy wants me to succumb to them so I make the choice not to. Every time I put myself out there, I always get a message or comment from someone saying they needed to hear this. This made me realize this brand is so much bigger than me. I truly believe God wants me to impact the masses and I can’t do that if I allowed fear, rejection and doubts to stop me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love to eat so we would be trying out the cute cool restaurants. El Tucán was one of my favorite places. The food and drinks were so good and they had such a cute aesthetic. It had a sophisticated jungle theme so that is definitely on my list to go back every time I visit.I currently live in Philadelphia so we don’t have beaches here so I of course would love to take advantage of being to go to the beach, enjoy a nice day on a yacht with a drinks and City Girls playing lol. Also, I have to have a good spa day at Lapis Spa at the Fountainbleu. You get exclusive access to their pools, restaurants, the beach and this cool majestic mineral shower!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God, of course! Without Him I wouldn’t even be able to share my story right now. When I had no strength to even push through day to day, I know it was His strength that pushed me. I’m so grateful to know my identity in Him, regardless of the roles He granted me. Whenever hardships come, they’re so much easier to overcome because today I know I am an overcomer, a conqueror and an extension of His kingdom.

My family! My partner in love and parenting is my biggest supporter! From allowing me to vent when I am overwhelmed to taking things off my plate that he can to give me more time to focus on my business or time to rest. My daughter is my daily motivation. She somehow knows what to say when I need to hear them most. A simple “I love you mommy” can make my hardest day the best day ever!

My sisterhood! I wouldn’t even be featured if Nicole didn’t recommend me and I truly believe I am a reflection of the women I surround myself with. They carried me, spoke life over me and support me even when it was hard to do for myself.
