Meet Chelsea Levy | Nutritionist & Intuitive Eating Counselor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Levy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chelsea, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Respect: R-E-S-P-E-C-T matters most to me!
As a Health at Every Size (HAES) nutritionist, and intuitive eating counselor, I help people heal their relationships with food and body. Body respect, body autonomy, body justice, and body liberation are my language.
Body liberation is the true freedom from body oppression that treats some bodies as essentially unequal and creates the pervasive marginalization which pains us all, The healing begins when we start looking within ourselves to hold space for internalized body respect. There is much to be unlearned before we relearn and realign to this respect. It is beautiful to witness.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Hi, I am Chelsea Levy, pronouns are: (she/her). I am a Nutritionist and a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor. I earned my Master of Science degree from Hunter College, and completed my dietetic internship at the City of New York (CUNY) School of Public Health in New York City.
I am committed to utilizing Health at Every Size® (HAES®) principles in my approach to nutrition therapy. I work with individuals struggling with disordered eating and eating disorders, with a focus on weight-inclusive medical nutrition therapy, body image healing, and Intuitive Eating. I also has special interests in treating individuals with diabetes, in larger-bodies, and who identify as transgender or non-binary. I believes it is vital to provide care relevant to an individual’s culture, ethnicity and overall identities. I host a collaborative space for the exploration of food and body healing through creativity and compassion.
I stand out in my field as a person in a fat body. I also am a career changer. It is never too later to educate yourself and continue onward with your passions. Some might call that starting over, while I see it as an extension of my multitude of interests.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ahhh NYC really is the city that never sleeps. With an array of culture, each day could be themed by a country of origin and showcase chefs, films, artists alike to entertain.
For example, Pastis, a local french bistro reopened its doors to its patrons. It’s brunch is a must. While in the meatpacking district there is much to see by foot such as chic shops to step in and out of at your convenience. Next strolling to another local favorite spot, Angelika’s Film Center for a foreign french film perhaps?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to all the folks out there who have felt like outsiders in their profession first and foremost. Just because you don’t see yourself does not mean you do not belong. To every marginalized individual who pushed against the grain to get where they are today, thank you for inspiring me.
