We had the good fortune of connecting with Chioke and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chioke, what are you inspired by?
I’m inspired by life. Whether I’m washing dishes at work, or on stage singing my heart out. I’m inspired by the possibilities that there are for my life. I use to think very definitively… and for where I was at in life then, it was necessary. But now, I’m inspired by my delusional. To wake up each day and think of ways I can manipulate and bend my life, my outcome, my path. So yea my inspirations change daily, shoot every moment lol. This is the most fun I’ve had in life, and I think that’s one of the main reasons why. I just let any and everything inspire me, to not only create, but live. Smile.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Getting to where I’m at has not been easy, but it’s been very confirming along the way. I constantly ask myself am I headed in the right direction. I look at my career and I am can honestly say that I am. What sets me apart from others is my story, my brand, it’s ME. CHIOKE, that’s what separates me. I worked hard to make my brand digestible and enjoyable. Savory. A flavor you never want to leave your tongue! It has not been easy, the first year of my career I’d say 2020, was really taking shots in the dark and seeing what made it in. 2021 was honing in on that, 2022 was really stamping myself as a performer. Here we are 2023, I have a solid brand to where I can push. Do my hand to hand marketing, feet on land ya know lol. I want the world to know I do this for my angels. Jay Dreamer, Soul Hoodrich, and Regg B. My songbirds, my creative visionaries. There would be no Chioke without them. You live as long as the last person that remembers you. So never stop speaking out your angels, telling their story, introducing them to the world. Legacy is such an important part of my brand. Also having fun. Do what would make the younger you stand up and clap with excitement. My life hasn’t played out how I envisioned it, but younger me didn’t know that this life was possible. To find this much fulfillment and joy in being a performer, it’s been very rewarding.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would look up some cool events on instagram honestly I follow mad DJ’s lol. Sundays at the Saint with Selexxta. During the day, I would get a session in with Tommy Love at Core Valu Studios or Julian at After 5 owned by the Ben Thomas. (Tommy and Julian are the only people I record with)Then we would either hit up Silk City, or Kung Fu Necktie Mon/ Tues night depending on who is spinning. Wednesdays are my off days from work, so I would love setting up photo shoots with Des Miera at Lite Research studios. Now Wednesdays nights are my rehearsals with the band at Forge Recording Studios ran by one of my fav people Krispy. Thursday night we’d slide pass Dahlak to check out hood folks Jam session. Pretty cool karaoke night Friday/ Saturday nights hosted by my guy Mike! It’s always something to do in the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
@SunWun there would be no Chioke without Radi Supremes belief in my pen! Nurtured my writing and vocals and supports me til this day. Very very special person in my life. More than anyone would understand. His son, Rasoul is one of my very important friends that I do it for. I love y’all for life ❤️
