We had the good fortune of connecting with Choumika JeanPierre and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Choumika, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I first thought about starting my own business I was a bit frightened of the idea. I have never been the type of person to put myself out there or be the center of attention. The thought of starting a business and trying to spread the word was a difficult process. Growing up I had always struggled with discoloration, sensitive skin and I have a skin condition called Milia. Trying to find products for my skin was frustrating and hard. Therefore, I wanted to start a brand that everyone would always use and would have been beneficial to many individuals. I introduced the idea to my boyfriend at first and he was super supportive and encouraging about it. Later on that week, I started jotting down possible business names and trying to figure out what products would be essential to sell or people would enjoy using on a daily basis. To be honest with you guys that process took me weeks to accomplish, then I finally came up with the name EnhanceSkincare. That name was perfect because during that time I was learning to love my skin with all the imperfections that came along with it. Why not enhance your beauty in your way and style right. Lastly, my biggest thought was to build self-care and self-love! I notice my generation is lacking a lot of that and showing your surroundings you care and using your voice to be empowered is such a great feeling.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is about creating self care and self love to people around me. Making soaps, hair oils, hair treatment and face scrubs is a perfect way to bring that joy to myself and someone else. I believe what sets me apart from others would be my work ethic and dedication, I love what I do. I am not the type to compare myself to anyone because everyone has their way of creating and bringing something good to the table. As for business-wise I am still learning how to manage and to perfect my skills. Creating a business takes time and a lot of self work, I would not say I’m ready to be a full time or perfect business women because on my end I truly believe there is some work that needs to be done. My brand is for every skin type and I mostly focus on sensitive skin and how to defeat the curse that comes with it. I know the struggle of having sensitive skin, fighting with discoloration and how some days are good and bad. I am working on bringing more products to the table and how to perfect my craft a little more.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
That is a very hard question for me, I am such an introvert so my best friend knows better not to ask me to take them anywhere lol. I am going to be honest, I love food so places I would go out to eat would be the Fort Lauderdale area. There are nice, good and clean restaurants around that area. I am more of a Caribbean food girl, if it is not Haitian food, Jamaican, and some Cuban foods then I do not want it. As for hang outs, I would take her to Brick house in Wynwood, Miami, Club Seven or any Haitian event happening that week. I love to dance so best believe we are going to be dancing in the corner. I am also a huge nature fan, so the beach, parks, hikes, and Botanical gardens would be my most fun and interesting places to check out and hang around at.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I would like to give a huge shout out to God, not only for blessing me but for opening my eyes, mind and thoughts to do better and start this journey with my business. Second shout out would be to my boyfriend for allowing me to share my ideas with him and being encouraging and supporting every step of the way. My last shout out would be to myself of course, I believe you are your biggest supporter and believer, if you do not put your mind, courage or strength to something you would not get it down or finish what you started. I had pushed myself with everything I started in life and being able to get something done no matter the tears or obstacles you come across in life is the reason you want to do better and keep pushing.
