We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Buxton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe the most important factor behind the success of anything I put my mind to comes down to always “providing value”. I know I may not always be the most talented or intelligent person in the room, but I always make it my goal to utilize my skill sets and find ways to help and aid others where there is room to grow. This mindset has opened several doors for me over the past couple of years, and it has allowed me to grow my overall brand. When you allow yourself to help others without the thought of having it reciprocated, it allows people to see your character. Your integrity and character are a form of currency that can’t be bought. I believe that through this way of thinking, people have found a sense of trust in me, and I have been able to succeed when given more responsibility.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When it comes to my work, I believe my selflessness, attention to detail, and drive have set me apart from others. In addition, although it seems like time is fleeting, my ability to be patient has really propelled me, because it allows me to produce the best product. When I first started making music, I was very young, and I really didn’t believe in delayed gratification. If I saw it, I wanted it at that very moment. This way of thinking made me rush multiple processes that I believe ultimately stunted my growth in future events. However, after taking time away from my art and finding myself within the music journalism community at BangerOfTheDay, I was able see my younger self in other artists. This allowed me to see that I wasn’t on a timetable, and I ultimately realized that’d I’d personally rather focus on developing the best product then rushing to meet an imaginary deadline. Working for BangerOfTheDay and Topbin90, has made me very selfless. I went from envying other people, artists, and companies, to fully believing in my abilities and lending a hand to help those around me. I realized that there’s enough room for everyone to eat. When looking at my story and brand, I want people to think of me as a vessel. I realize that I’m here to help those around me and I think that’s what makes me successful. I’m not operating off of hate and envy. I strive to find success in my own way while also helping others find it as well. Success is more enjoyable when you experience it with others!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely have to recommend Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, Bayfront Park, Little Havana & Calle Ocho, & Art Deco Historic District if we were looking to spend the day adventuring around. As far as nightlife, I would have to go with E11even, Club Space, STORY, or LIV.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When it comes to my success from a marketing standpoint, I have to give a shoutout to Jorge Gonzales. Jorge started a Charlotte based music journalism company named TopBin90 that is responsible for covering Charlotte FC as well as global soccer news. Over the last few months, he has allowed me to play a part in the success of the company. Whether it’s doing pre-match fan interviews or helping plan “Away Game” parties, Jorge has believed in me from the get-go and I’m extremely thankful for his support. In addition, music journalism company BangerOfTheDay has allowed me to grow as a writer and journalist over the past 2-3 years. Coming into the music industry as an artist, I have always had a drive to do more on the business side of the industry. Working for BangerOfTheDay has allowed me to connect with artists, managers, and executives to provide a helping hand in getting more ears/eyes on the future of music. I’m thankful for both opportunities.
