We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Jordan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work life balance is essential. In my teens and early twenties I was a bit of a workaholic. I was so focused on moving up in my career and scaling my business that I often forgot about how important it is to carve out time and just enjoy life. At one point I became so burnt out that I had no choice but to take a step back from everything that I was involved in and reevaluate how I wanted to spend my time.
Now, at 26, I understand the importance of work-life balance. I make time to workout, hangout with friends, connect with family, travel, and participate in other activities that bring me peace and joy. In fact, finding time for leisure helps me be at my best when I come back to my business ventures. Balance is an integral part of becoming successful at whatever you do. When my mind and body are aligned, I do my best work. To me, life is all about experiences. Being successful financially, or entreprenurially is great, but at the end of my life, I don’t want all of my memories to be of me working. I want to have fun too.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I do quite a bit creatively. I run a YouTube channel and host a podcast. What I’m most proud of is seeing my growth and progression as a content creator and entrprenuer. The hardest thing about being a creative entrepreneur is staying consistent. When you’re starting with no audience, staying inspired and creating content on a day to day basis can be tough. I’ve learned that what matters most is having a “why”. My goal has always been to create inspiring and thought provoking content. That’s my “why”. So, even when I have periods of time where my creative projects aren’t gaining the traction that I desire, my purpose and passion for creating content is the driver that keeps me going.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite area of Miami is definitely Wynwood. I love the murals in the area. Plus there are some really great food spots in that part of the city! Brickell is one of my favorite locations as well. Brickell has some excellent restaurants.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to give a huge shoutout to my parents. I am very fortunate to have had two parents who were actively involved in my development as a child. They pushed me to be the best that I could possibly be in everything that I did and I have carried that mentality with me into adulthood. I am constantly looking for ways to evolve, learn, and grow and I feel that is a byproduct of how they raised me.
