We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Marett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chris, what do you attribute your success to?
A healthy sense of humor. I see Tacocat as a vehicle for jokes, I try to make myself laugh with every cat and when i succeed I feel successful.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always enjoyed art, painting, drawing, movies, music, sub sandwiches., I just never knew what I wanted to say as an artist, that’s why I’m so grateful that I created Tacocat Pdx. I got to think my Bar trivia teammates who named our team Tacocat every week, I’ve never heard of this Palindrome but soon started drawing my version of a tacocat on the answer sheets . It quickly evolved to making cardboard cut outs of Tacocats with PDX written on the shell and then into funny phrases made more funny because of the ridiculousness of being on a tacocat.
I’ve been cranking out these cats for 2 years as of this July and have become active in the local art scene in Portland.
Since the cardboard cut outs which I still like to mike I’ve invested in a iPad and have been working on my “2.0 tacocats” digitized Tacocat’s made on an iPad. I use the 2.0 cats to make t-shirt and sticker designs that are currently sold at multiple local retail locations . Portlanders love stickers . They are my business cards and I was very happy with the evolution to 2.0 Tacocats . Digital art makes testing idea possibilities way easier and less costly. As far as Tacocat goes , I feel that having the vague parameters of a cat inside a taco shell has opened up a variable pandoras litter box to the silly nonsensical, lighthearted, cute humorous works of brilliantly creative ridiculousness that I call my art.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The world is your oyster, don’t ask me what’s in yoiur oyster, I’m not really sure, Ioysters probably, but whatever that is I’m not sure. There’s probably a lot of great local restaurants here that could enlighten us. if you come visit and want to take me to eat, that could be cool.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
