We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
When I first began my business I became so busy helping others that I neglected myself. My life was totally out of balance. I became the overweight Weight Loss Coach and felt like a fraud. My excuse was, I so busy training clients that I didn’t have any time to train myself. This was partially true but the reality was, I wasn’t aware of how badly I was doing in the nutrition department. I was eating way too much! My heaviest was 215 lbs. I didn’t realize it at the time but I was an emotional eater and would frequently reward myself with out of control “cheat days” because I felt I deserved it for all of my hard work of training clients and running a business. (sound familiar) Regular cheats for me were takeout from Burger King or my favourite Pizza and Chicken joint. Even though I knew a lot about nutrition I was blowing it big time! I wasn’t in control of my food like I thought I was. Oops! Not only did this take a toll on me physically but mentally as well. I wanted to set an example, I wanted to look the part and no longer feel like a fraud. It was time for a change. I needed to change! This couldn’t continue! Long story short, after more education, books, seminars, and trial and error, I was able to get the body I wanted. I was able to correct my eating habits and master the mental game. My weight loss transformation took me from 215 lbs to 165 lbs. I was able to lose 50 pounds! The whole experience really opened my eyes to all of the emotional struggles women faced and what my clients really went through…..it also inspired me to write a book. (Keep The Weight Off…it’s on Amazon) Anyhow, I wanted to share this with you because I’m not only a Weight Loss Coach but I’m also a client! (and always working on myself) ….so know how you feel!!! This can happen for you too if you have the courage to keep moving forward and learn new things! You really can’t CHANGE until your thinking does.
What should our readers know about your business?
It all started when both of my parents passed away from sickness and disease. First my father from a stroke and complications in the hospital and then my mother who had type two diabetes, colon cancer, and succumbed to both illnesses. These devastating losses ignited a passion in me for health and fitness. As a result of my passion, I went on to study Personal Training Nutrition, Hypnosis, NLP and obtained many other certifications in health and wellness because I was really curious about how both my parents ended up the way they did. Long story short I found myself really enjoying helping people managing their weight. Eventually, I became a weight loss problem solver, helping women to deal with unresolved emotions, toxic bodies, and poor health; which I found were the real underlying causes why their weight wouldn’t budge. I didn’t intentionally start off to work with only women but that’s what I kept on attracting, so I embraced it. I guess the biggest lesson I learned from working with women over the years is nothing changes until your mind changes.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, I like to stay in and relax however you can’t go to Miami without spending some time at the beach and soaking up the sun!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My girlfriend Donna for sticking with me through all of life’s ups and downs.
