We had the good fortune of connecting with Christelle Dominique and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christelle, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
In my home country Haiti where I grew up it was customary for me to get a new dress made for every occasion( Sunday Mass, Christmas, birthday ) My Grandmother or my mom would take me to a seamstress and have me choose from a catalog a dress ( pattern ) that I wanted to have executed. With time i started wanting my dress a bit different from the rest, I can still remember asking my seamstress to modify the pattern so I could have something original…if you ask me , this is where my eye for fashion started developing and how I started forging my path toward the fashion world… My passion to be a fashion designer has allowed me to explore ideas, emotions, and concepts that words alone cannot convey. I am able to transform my passion and my client’s vision into a profession that not only gives joy but also leaves an impact on others…
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is my ability to lead while doing my best to maintain a positive attitude. There’s no denying that positive people have better relationships. Keeping an upbeat attitude and being pleasant to be around can really make you stand out from everyone around you. I am most proud of my tenacious spirit which has allowed me to constantly educate myself, seizing every opportunity that came my way, and taking risks even when they scared me. But I overcame it all by never losing sight of my goals.
I want the world to know that Mejeanne Couture uniquely designs each piece with my clients personality in mind and we are just getting started. There’s so much more that I want to share with the world , I am finally at a stage where I can create my collection so please stay tuned!
