We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian De La Huerta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christian, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I’d say the most important factor behind my success has been a deep commitment to authenticity and congruence of purpose—paired with a healthy dose of persistence.

For over three decades, I’ve stayed aligned with the core of why I do this work: to help people reconnect with their true selves and live more meaningful, empowered lives and relationships that have a chance of working. That purpose has never changed, even as the way I express it—through writing, speaking, retreats, or private sessions—has evolved over time.

Also, I walk my talk. I don’t teach anything I haven’t lived or walked through myself. That authenticity builds trust, and people can feel when something is real. It hasn’t always been easy—there have been plenty of ups and downs—but staying true to my message and showing up consistently has kept the work alive and impactful.
Success, to me, isn’t just about recognition or reach—it’s about integrity. It’s about knowing that what I’m offering is in alignment with my soul and of genuine service to others. And that’s what keeps me going.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been doing this work for almost 35 years as a transformational coach, retreat facilitator, and teacher. I offer retreats and workshops all over the world, helping people reconnect with their purpose, heal old wounds, and step into their authentic power. What sets my work apart is the unique balance of psychological insight and spiritual depth. I draw from both to offer teachings and practices that are not just inspirational, but truly life-changing.
I’m also an award-winning author and TEDx speaker, and I see writing as another extension of this mission—to bring deeper healing and awakening to others. My books, Coming Out Spiritually, Awakening the Soul of Power, and the one that was just released, Conscious Love: Transforming Our Relationship to Relationships, each represent a layer of that journey: reclaiming identity, rediscovering inner power, and removing internal obstacles to love.

Getting here hasn’t always been easy. I grew up in a fear-filled environment in a communist country, where hiding your true feelings and beliefs was necessary for survival. I came to the U.S. at age 10 without speaking a word of English and carried a deep sense of not belonging. Over time, I moved from self-doubt and self-hatred to self-love and confidence. That inner transformation became the foundation of everything I now teach.

I’ve learned that the challenges we face often become the very soil in which our purpose takes root. I’ve also learned to trust timing, to stay congruent with my values, and to keep showing up, especially when things get hard. For me, it’s a deep sense of mission and purpose that fuels everything I do—and anchors the constancy with which I show up.

What I want the world to know about me and my work is that real transformation is possible. We don’t have to keep repeating the same old, boring patterns. We can live with greater freedom, authenticity, and meaning. That’s what I’ve dedicated my life to—and it continues to be the most humbling, sacred journey I could imagine.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you’ve never been to Miami, start with the iconic Art Deco District on South Beach and let the ocean breeze carry you down to Little Havana’s pulsing rhythms and café windows. My heart, though, belongs to Coconut Grove—the greenest corner of the city, hugging the bay with its laid-back, bohemian charm.

I also spend a great deal of time in Aspen, where nature once again takes center stage. Towering peaks, wildlife on the trails, and hikes that leave you breathless in every sense—the town itself may be pricey, but its art galleries, restaurants, and postcard vistas feel like something magical.

Both places fuel my work: Miami’s international scene and cultural heartbeat remind me of the power of connection, while Aspen’s raw beauty offers the stillness and perspective that keep my teaching and writing rooted in the sacred pulse of the natural world.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without question, my mother. She was my first teacher in love—not just through her words, but through her actions. From her, I learned the power of unconditional love, quiet strength, and deep devotion. Both my parents made countless—I’d even say heroic—sacrifices so my siblings and I could have a better life, and even when things were hard, her love remained a constant. That foundational experience shaped who I am and how I show up in the world and in my work.

I’d also like to acknowledge the many people I’ve had the privilege of working with over the past 30+ years—clients, retreat participants, and students from all walks of life. Each of them, in their own way, has taught me something about love, courage, healing, and what it means to be human. I carry their stories with deep respect and gratitude.
