We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian Lora and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christian, how do you think about risk?
“I think risk is absolutely necessary. At some point in your life you just have to go for it. One of my biggest fears is laying in my death bed, looking back at my life with that feeling of “what if?” I refuse to let that happen with anything in my life, not just my career.”
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
“I think one of the biggest things that sets me apart from others is my perspective. I wasn’t born with it, it’s more of something that’s been crafted by my life experiences over the years.
I’m excited about the future. Really excited. I’m still technically in the beginning part of my career and I’ve already done more than I could’ve imagined in this time frame. That being said the fact that I still haven’t really done much in the bigger picture gets me really hyped!
What I’m proud of? I’m proud of me. I’m proud of myself, where I’ve come from and how far I’ve come along in this amount of time, while going through all the hurdles of life. Pushing through those doubting voices in my head, keeping faith in myself, trusting myself… these are milestones for me that I’ve been able to reach through my career.
Was it easy? No. Is it easy now? No, absolutely not. It’s hard being an artist and entrepreneur, but the thing is, it’s also hard working a 9-5 you hate for the rest of your life. I chose my “hard”. I’ve been on the other side, and it’s not for me. I refuse it, those memories are a big thing that help me get through the hurdles as an artist.
I want the world to remember me as, Christian Lora… a father, artist, and educator. Teaching photography and opening a school is one of my goals. I also want the world to remember me as a man who really cared about his art, a man that expressed himself through his art and made compelling images.”
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
“The area as in Miami or back home? In Miami I’m definitely taking them to South Beach for a good time! Haha I love nightlife. Coyo Taco is one place I always go to when I come to Miami. It’s a taco place with a hidden nightclub in the back, best of both worlds!
Wynwood and the design district are a must as well. So they could get a feel for the art and fashion scene over here.”
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Man, where do I begin? I am fortunate enough to say I’ve had a tremendous amount of support and encouragement. With that being said I can definitely start with all the guys over at Ripe Studio, especially my boy Doper Vision. Ripe provided me with a local space to be able to create my visions and show the potential I knew I had to the world. Nothing but love and uplifting energy whenever I’m around those guys! Go check out my boy @doper_vision on IG. I’d like to shoutout my boy A Pressure, we met when we were both in one of the worst situations possible and that’s when I was at my beginning, got through that jam and he’s been believing in my abilities ever since. Always appreciate my guy. Shoutout to the whole 4th money crew! Especially Daz, Blackmask Duffle, and Scrappy. Since the moment I met them they always hyped me and my work up! Always supporting and putting me in positions to win. Big shoutout to all the models who I’ve worked with along the way! Thank you all for trust. Also big shoutout to everyone who donated to me when all my equipment was stolen. I spoke about that in my last interview.
I definitely need to shoutout all the photographers I look up to. Not in any specific order or anything haha. Shot by Sham, Chris Cavanaugh, Pat Kay, Tyler Shields, Manny Ortiz, Oswaldo Cepeda, man I really hope I’m not forgetting anybody or I’m gonna be hate myself for it later haha. Without the knowledge, gems, encouragement, and support from those guys, there isn’t a doubt in my mind I wouldn’t be where I am today. So shoutout to all of them for that!
And last and not least… shoutout to ME. Christian Lora. It has been a hard, lonely journey, I’ve put literal blood swear and tears into this. I love it though, I was born for this. I know I was.
