We had the good fortune of connecting with christian motter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi christian, how do you think about risk?
Every day in business is a risk, not just the day you decide to start it. Thats what makes life fun and exciting, risking it for the biscuit. My business partner and I grew up together in New Orleans, Louisiana and were always the kids who were competitive and wanting to push the envelope a little further. While our parents and teachers may have hated this, I think this is crucial in business. Always questioning the how and why and just putting yourself out there for every possible opportunity. My mother used to always say that success dances with the ones who are out on the dance floor and I think that mindset has really pushed me to always keep my feet moving in life.

What should our readers know about your business?
My story is slightly unique and led me to where I am today. After graduating from the University of Mississippi with Finance and Real Estate degrees I moved to Texas to pursue commercial real estate but somehow found my way into a startup tech company. After a few years of sales, management, marketing, and doing anything possible to help the company grow I visited my good friend and now business partner Cook. Cook was a captain on a catamaran in the Virgin Islands and needed some help prepping the boat for an upcoming charter so I flew in a stayed aboard for 6 days getting things ready and exploring the area. After sailing around the islands I realized I wasn’t where I wanted to be in life and eventually moved to South Florida to get back on the water and start working on yachts and fishing vessels. A few years later I was working back in the Virgin Islands on a yacht and sure enough my friend Cook pulled a boat into the slip next to me. We both lived in the islands for months working, enjoying the island life, and passing business ideas back and forth, but there was one that we were both passionate about, yacht management.

When we both settled a bit it was time to start our business, Oceanside Management Group. A yacht and property management company in the South Florida area specializing in Luxury Concierge service. With our large charter yacht background the 5 star service is all that we know. So we took everything that we learned and made sure to bring that to our clients who have their boats and properties here in South Florida. So whether the boat needs a scheduled cleaning and maintenance, licensed captains/divers, a full refit, a delivery to Nantucket, or anything in between, we have them covered.

The big lessons we learned along the way is of course there are good days and bad days but keep your feet moving and once you start to get in stride it all snowballs!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Funny enough my family just came to visit so I just took them all over. We did some lobster diving in the keys, some partying on the beach in Miami, and hit some of the low key local spots here in Fort Lauderdale. For Lunch I took them to 15th fisheries to get some good food, see all of the sea life, and catch some live music. Afterwards, we went to Parks and Ocean to grab a beer and kayak through some of the mangroves out there. We then hit the beach for some sun tanning, swimming, and frisbee and finished the night off at Casablanca. Casablanca is a strange blend of different foods from all over but is always delicious and a blast. I made sure we sat right next to the piano so we could all join in singing when she the artist started playing the classics.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost I have to shoutout my business partner who is a crucial part of my success. We constantly push each other and bounce ideas off of each other which led us to initially create this company, and has continually led to our success. Secondly, I obviously wouldn’t be here with out my family; My mother for encouraging me to be creative and of course bringing me into this world, my father for pushing me and helping me overcome obstacles in life, and my two sisters for keeping me grounded and constantly providing me with love.
