We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Ever since I thought of becoming a Speech Therapist, I dreamt of having my own business. I wanted to build something I could be proud of and that I could create the way I wanted it. I wanted to be able to cater to my clients and have the time to learn about their specific needs, disorders, etc. Having my own business allows me the opportunity to do so as my hours are more flexible.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I love about my company is that I get to decide what it is going to be like. The name of my company is Watch Me Grow, and I chose this because it is one of the most exciting parts of my career, watching the little ones I work with grow! But the name also signifies my growth as well. As a person and a clinician. Since my business is my baby, I make sure to dedicate the time to each of my clients and their families. I love that I have more time now to take courses in order to continue growing as a clinician and to provided the best for my clients. I believe in order for the children to succeed, the family, teachers, and other therapists need to be involved and on the same page. I am excited to hopefully partner with schools in order to continue educating and guiding others to better help children that have not found their voice.

Growing up, I always knew I wanted a career working with children and helping them in some way. One of my cousin’s was very delayed in his speech and I saw the stress it put on his parents. He was eventually diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. He began speech therapy and I vividly remember the joy in his mom’s face when her little boy began communicating. That was the moment that I can remember thinking, what is that job and how can I do that for someone? That is when I decided to become a Speech Language Pathologist.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, being from Miami, I would definitely want to show them the beach, Brickell, and Homestead. My husband and I love driving around Homestead and visiting every possible animal attraction. I would also take them to the Perez Art Museum and Vizcaya as these both have beautiful views. To eat, I would take them to my favorite, Chef Adrianne. I would also take them to Versailles if they want to try some Cuban food. Don Burrito, Cracked, and Taipa are some of my other favorites that we would stop by.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband was number one motivator. He kept pushing me to open my own business for several years. He has believed in me from day one and knew that I could do it. My parents have also been great supporters and always provide the motivation I some times need.
