We had the good fortune of connecting with Christine Bright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christine, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I provided a safe place for my son to share his thoughts, feelings, and emotions. I made a conscious effort not to respond with, “you shouldn’t feel that way.” when he talked with me. It is vital to validate our children’s thoughts, feelings, and emotions. I wanted him to understand he wasn’t “wrong” for having thoughts and feelings, and doing so allowed me to have opportunities for great discussions with him.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have had the pleasure of working with differently-abled children since high school. I was drawn to children that were the “naughty ones”. It seemed I had a natural knack for being able to handle their behaviors.
My passion for helping children guided me to become a Therapeutic Foster Parent, which gave me invaluable training I still use. Working one-on-one with a child with challenging behaviors brought me unspeakable joy. These experiences ignited a deeper within me.
I became a Child Care Professional and Family Advocate for children with mild to severe behavioral issues. I further enhanced my skills and knowledge by training with Dr. Ross Greene, author of The Explosive Child. Today, I continue my passion by helping families navigate all the challenges that are a natural facet of parenting. My clients learn fundamentals, skills, and actionable strategies that result in more positive interactions with their children. Which ultimately leads to a stronger bond with their child. Kids don’t come with a manual! But now you can get The Parenting Game Playbook and start winning!
As the Founder of the Parenting Game, I share the strategies I have developed and continue to use with larger audiences as a Parenting and Family Coach and speaker.
I love what I do because when parents are intentional about implementing what they learn, it results in a happier home where everybody listens, cooperates, and communicates. I cherish my work with families, communities, and those precious kiddos needing extra support. It is my life’s work
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to? Touring the State Capital and the Veterans Museum would be at the top of the list. Exploring downtown Madison WI is a beautiful day of discovering interesting shops, bars, and restaurants. The Old Fashion restaurant is the place to get the best beer battered, deep-fried cheese curds, and craft cocktails. Of course, no trip would be complete without visiting a few local distilleries and breweries. Yahara Bay distillery and Karbon 4 brewery are my favorites.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life are at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to? Two dear friends, Dr. Tom Nebel and Elizabeth Disch MA,LPC, were instrumental in developing Parenting Game LLC. They both helped me get out of my head what I do and word it into teachable strategies. Elizabeth was the first to have confidence in my speaking abilities and provided opportunities for me to speak at a local university. She continues to be an encouragement to me as a friend and fellow business owner. Without her support Parenting Game may have ended before it started!
Tom was my sounding board as I decided what content would go into the Playbook. Several late nights with post-it notes all over my walls as we organized the material. He also pushed me. I didn’t always like it. Boy-oh-boy, we would butt heads! But, the result was worth it, and I am glad he hung in with me. As a result, I have a coaching program and Parenting Playbook I am proud of, and lives are changing.
