We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher Mack and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christopher, what do you attribute your success to?
We operate in the spirit of collaboration. To be successful, one cannot afford to operate within a silo. The Bridge Art Gallery often partners with other arts organizations, we readily refer our artists to other galleries and artistic opportunities and we also allow community based organizations the opportunity to host events within our art gallery for free.
We measure success not only through our individual achievements but also by the achievements of those around us. We are able to do this when we support one another through collaboration.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Cheryl and Christopher Mack are the owners of the Bridge Art Gallery, founders of the Bridge Arts Festival and publishers of the Bridge Arts quarterly publication. Cheryl and Christopher strongly believe in the power of the arts to transform communities. Together they utilize their years of professional experience of event planning, creative design and marketing to curate year-round quality arts entertainment.
Cheryl Mack has over 25 years as a Special Events Project Manager, where she has provided concept development, conference/event planning, strategic marketing and television production services to a wide array of international clients. Her client list includes The Climate Group (London), UN Sustainable Energy for All (Vienna), BEYA STEM Conference (Washington, DC), BET Networks and the National Black Arts Festival. Christopher Mack is an iconic name within the creative design industry and was also an artist. Under his creative communications firm, Christopher has provided branding and creative design services to notable clients that have included Harlem Hospital, New York Life, JPMorgan Chase and Essence Magazine just to name a few.
Together, the Macks locally produce monthly art exhibitions at the Bridge Art Gallery that showcase regional and national visual artists; they produce the summer performance series “Art in the Park” at First Street Park in Bayonne, NJ every Thursday from May to August; and they produce the annual Bridge Arts Festival in September. The Bridge Arts Festival has grown into a destination event where attendees from around the region are able to enjoy the beauty of Bayonne, NJ. Nestled along the waterfront with the Bayonne Bridge as the backdrop, the Bridge Arts Festival demonstrates that the City of Bayonne is more than just a bridge.
All of the Bridge Arts activities conceptualized by Cheryl Mack and her husband Christopher Mack are focused on reducing the distance that Bayonne residents must travel in order to enjoy quality arts entertainment.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First, we would take a mini tour of New York City which is less than 10 miles away. As former residents of New York, we know the city very well. From the Borough of Brooklyn to the streets of Manhattan to the vibrant energy of Harlem, Team Mack can provide the ultimate New York City experience. The best shopping, restaurants and culture in the world.
Then, we will tour Jersey City, the most diverse city in the state of New Jersey. Jersey City has its own unique vibe that consists of beautiful waterfronts, a bustle downtown food and arts district and an amazing bar scene with some of the best mixologists around.
Finally, we would end our whirlwind tour in the Peninsula City of Bayonne! Bayonne is such a beautiful city with a small town feel. No matter where you live in the City of Bayonne, you are just a short 10 minute walk from the water’s edge. From many points within the City of Bayonne, you can see the skyline of Manhattan in all its brilliance. The city’s treelined blocks feature beautiful residences and the location of the Bridge Art Gallery is in historic Bergen Point – Bayonne. For a small town, Bayonne features a wide variety of food offerings at many of the family owned and operated businesses. You are guaranteed to enjoy family recipes of traditional Italian, Peruvian, Polish, Thai, Mediterranean and Mexican restaurants. It’s as if Grandma is in the kitchen creating these delicious meals herself.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our community of creatives is the sole inspiration behind our journey. Our desire to provide a platform to showcase the enormous talents that we are connected to in our daily lives.. The visual artists, the musicians, the actors and the writers, they are the powerful force in this world and their creativity is the superpower. It is what inspires us, conveys our emotions and the universal language of the world.
We are conscious of the trust granted to us when we are able to showcase their creativity and we take that responsibility seriously.
