We had the good fortune of connecting with Claudenie Mondesir and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Claudenie, how does your business help the community?
In the past decade, minorities often suffer from poor mental health outcomes due to multiple factors including inaccessibility of high quality mental health care services, cultural stigmas surrounding mental health care and an overall lack of awareness about mental health. We identify and understand barriers to minority mental healthcare and the lack of qualified available professional to evaluate, diagnose and treat such conditions. Minority groups such as African-Americans, Hispanics, Asian-Americans and Native-Americans are more likely to experience risk factors that can cause mental health disorders and that was one of the reasons this practice was started to help with the mental health disparities we are faced presently. Monarch Mental Health & Wellness Services pride ourselves in meeting the needs patients in all counties in the State of Florida. We are a multi-lingual minority practice that helps individuals in their native tongues and feel connected to their mental healthcare providers. We provide services in Haitian-Creole, English, and Spanish. We not only take care of mental illness but provides guidance and help create a path to our overall well-being. As mental health advocates, our goal is to put an end to mental health stigma within our communities.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Monarch Mental Health & Wellness Services is a psychiatric practice that provide optimal care to all our clients. We are a minority based psychiatric practice takes pride in servicing all of Florida via our Telehealth platform. What sets us a part is our approach when treating our patients with mental health illnesses. We create a safe space for our patients to be themselves and encourage them to be their best selves. Most of all, we really listen to all of your concerns and we take your mental well-being serious. During the past year, we are excited to promote our CBS testing which helps recognize cognitive decline, depression, anxiety and ADHD. We have also spearheaded our preceptorship program with several colleges and universities as a form of giving back to our communities and dedicated students with a career in mental health. The goal of entering a preceptorship is to educate students on current mental health issues and to clarify and present the role of the nurse or PA-Student. Students will learn how to apply complex skills through their educational training as we serve as the bridge during the transition from student to practitioner.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The water has always been a place that brought me happiness as it takes me back to my island life. The various beautiful beaches of South Florida would be one place to definitely have some fun enjoying water sports or simply playing volleyball on nice sunny day. Dining and exploring fine cuisines are another. Eating on the intercostal of many favorite restaurants such as Kaluz, Shooters, and Blue Moon is a must! Going for walks on the boardwalks are always interesting, stopping at Blue Martini for a quick bite and drink or listening to some of the best reggae bands that perform at Ginger Bay in Hollywood is a favorite place of mine to unwind and I love music and dancing. Visiting Wynwood to explore chic clothing boutiques, bistros, and art galleries is also a must for my out of town guests. I love art, going to Art Basel and food and wine festivals are also a favorite of mine.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Thanks so much to my family and friends for all the support they have provided me throughout my journey in opening a psychiatric practice. Big thanks to my medical director and mentor, Dr. Davis. Without her taking a leap of faith and recognizing my talents and the need to help those that suffer with mental illness-which is near and dear to my heart. I am a strong believer that mental health illness does not define a person. She provided me an opportunity to do what I love. Thank you everyone, from the bottom of my heart!
