We had the good fortune of connecting with Cleanne Viana and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cleanne, why did you pursue a creative career?
I started to pursue photography around my junior year of high school. No one saw me as the creative person because I was always involved with sports my whole life. Everyone knew me for being the basketball girl and not the photographer. Photography never even crossed my mind until I took a two week trip to California and fell in love with the art. That trip changed my life and helped me realize that photography was my true passion. I fell in love with traveling and capturing every moment through a lens. It honestly wasn’t until covid hit that I put my work into a business format and actually started to get paid.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what sets me apart from others is the angles I capture, the lighting I use, and the colors I try to incorporate. I try to capture all my subjects in a abstract way to try to get the audiences attention. For my lighting I use a mirror to capture natural sunlight onto the subject or if I’m in the studio I use a flashpoint. I try to incorporate lots of color on to my pictures. What I usually do is I try to match the persons outfit with the background color to make it stand out and I usually use bright colors a s well. What I’m most proud of is my event called “Woahs World”. “Woahs World” is a studio collaboration event that happens twice a year. Its an event to get your pictures taken, network, meet some amazing people, and have a good time. I’m proud of this event because it has brought people together and has built many strong relationships. Honestly if it wasn’t for quarantine, I don’t think I would be where I’m at now. Quarantine gave everyone a chance to just stop what there doing and think. I took this chance to make my work into an actual business and start getting paid from it. This was not easy because I had to reevaluate everything I was doing and see what I was doing right and wrong and put it into a business format. I just took it day by day and tried learning something everyday and eventually I overcame my challenges. I’ve learned to not overthink things and never rush into things. Overthinking is a habit I have and it puts me into an unhealthy state but I’ve learned to just go day by day and live your life and along the way you will overcome your challenges. I want the world to know and to see how a lens can capture any moment or any emotion and see the beauty of it through my photos.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first thing we would do is take the birds/scooters everywhere we go. Our first stop would probally be design district. Would buys some clothes and shoot right after at museum garage which is perfect spot to take photos at. After that we would get some food and go to Miami Marine Stadium which is an abandoned stadium which is an amazing spot to explore. After that I would want to go to Sunny Isles beach which is more of a secluded beach in the Miami area and just sit and relax there. Would also love to go skydiving, bungee jumping, jet skiing, and etc.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My biggest inspiration throughout my journey with photography was Sam Dameshek. His photos inspired me and it made me want to do better and to stand out, to be different. I also want to shout out my friends and family. If it wasn’t for them believing in me, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
