We had the good fortune of connecting with Cody Patrick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cody, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in Wyoming on a cattle ranch in the mountains. I have lived in Miami for about 15 years now. My upbringing prepared me for my life as a business owner in a service industry. Serving people is a very large part of the fitness industry and growing up in a small community was very influential for me because it taught me how to treat others. By being reliable, consistent, friendly and honest I have been able to gain the trust and patronage of my community which ultimately has led to the success of my company. In a small community you cannot hide among the crowd. Your every action is known. Your personality counts for a great deal. So that taught me at an early age that I had to be nicer, work harder, and be more honorable than the person next to me if I wanted to stand out and be successful.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Being in the fitness industry requires a constant willingness to develop, innovate, and respond according to what your customers need. SWEAT440 is unique because we have addressed the most common excuse for people not making it to their group fitness classes. “I don’t have time.” That is the reason that the majority of people give for their current health status. So we set out to eliminate that by creating a brand that has classes that begin every 10 minutes instead of every hour like most brands. This allows for people to fit their workout into any busy schedule. We have also created an environment whereas the customer can receive more personal attention and focus that in regular class settings. By using our customized virtual trainer system our coaches on the floor are able to worry more about the customers technique and effort level instead of worrying about demonstrating the exercises. This makes for a safer and higher energy workout. We have gotten to where we are because our community has believed in us and been very loyal to our brand. My business partners and the team at SWEAT440 are all very passionate and hard working and most of all we pride ourselves on never settling. We are constantly innovating and working towards improving and creating.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would say that we would visit the Sunset Harbour neighborhood for a lot of their trip. We would eat and the various restaurants and workout at the various gyms (SWEAT440 for sure). We would probably enjoy a nice day at the Standard pool. We would take a run down the beach and stop off at muscle beach for a good outdoor workout. I would take them to Wynwood for a nice walk and maybe a drink at a craft brewery.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shout out to my new wife Jules. She has been a motivator, supporter and sounding board over the last few years while I was buried in the day to day of creating a new company. Sometimes it is easy to get caught up in the work and she was always there to provide me with what I needed to feel grounded.
