We had the good fortune of connecting with Colin Maloney Jr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Colin, how do you think about risk?
I usually think of risks in the most rational way possible. The easiest thing you can do is consider the variables you can control. If the areas I can make an impact have a high probability of increasing my chances of success, it feels less like a risk and more like an opportunity. I love opportunities to grow my business. Seeking opportunities, rather than waiting for them to happen, has lead to very positive outcomes in my career. Risks are thought of as this huge leap of faith. Making a decision where the negative consequences outweighs the positive effects. For me, there is no greater negative than not being able to have my career capturing priceless memories. Taking that “risk” on myself was the greatest decision of my career.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sa Sa Studios is a Photography and Videography company created by me, Colin Neil Maloney Jr. in 2014. The name is inspired by my late aunt. I fashioned a nickname her father gave her to my business as a way to keep her memory alive. She was a beautiful soul that was a foundational part of our family. When I took on the challenge of starting my own business, I instantly got goosebumps thinking about my Aunts name soon being a household name associated with happy memories. The goal for my business is to provide everlasting memories with you and your loved ones. I understand how these moments only come once in life and value ensuring you can relive it over and over again.
My first photography job was in a local photo studio. I captured school portraits, which included senior, prom and graduation pictures. I learned the business first hand from my employer and was quickly able to create a path for myself. Early on I did everything possible to get my name out there. I had a goal of contacting 100 people a day, sharing information about my business, trying to book a session. Not every attempt I took brought promising results, but consistency did.
Nothing about starting a business is easy. Having a clear vision, plan, and commitment to seeing it through will bring the best results every time. That is what I have done.
I really love what I do. There are no challenges, just opportunities. I love opportunities. Achieving them brings me one step closer to my goal.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The number 1 thing to do in South Florida to me is go to a Miami sports game. I am the number 1 Miami Heat fan and going to a game at the arena is a no brainer for me. It’s best to head there early and avoid the traffic as much as possible. Then after the game, hit up Bayside for food and drinks.
I’ve lived in South Florida my whole life. The beach or somewhere near is probably the top suggestions.
If you want to see the passion of the city, go to one of our home games in any sport.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family is the biggest catalyst to everything that I do. My mother’s encouragement is consistent. My Father likes to dream big for his kids. My siblings, Steffan, Keila, Courtney, Karissa, and Dylan are my heartbeat. I do this for them. Shoutout to Steffan again. My creative partner in crime. His brand ‘Almost There’ is one for the people. Look him up! Shoutout to my brothers that I’ve decided to build my village with. Those Boys. Miramar Boys. Shoutout to Joval aka ‘Jadorn Photo’. He literally taught me how to take photos. We have been building ever since. Also Shoutout Miramar High for being the hub for so much talent and successful people here in South Florida. I treated this section like a speech at the Grammys. So much people to give love to. I hope everyone knows how much I love and appreciate them.
