We had the good fortune of connecting with Colleen Orrico and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Colleen, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Authenticity. Not just we believe in the lines we sell, or the fact we are a family business and our shoppers know each of us and what we value, but that we understand how they live, they engage with their world, they dream. Fashion removed from magazines is style. Style creates a look to live in without thinking about it; it lets you move and be beautiful, instead of looking primpy or mannered. It’s easy, but it makes a statement without screaming. Because we share our friends’ worlds, they know who we are. What we sell reflects that. You can think you know Palm Beach, or you’re part of the fabric.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Easy? If it was easy everyone would do it, right? We realized there was a gap between how people lived and what magazines sold them. Women want to be pretty, but they also want to meet girlfriends for drinks, go to their kids games and go to meetings. We wanted to allow them to look fresh, but also beautiful with very little effort. And also, look ready to have fun at any moment! There was a big gap between dress for success, charity balls and real life. That’s where C. Orrico emerges.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since this is our “strange years” can we pretend its our normal for this question. We would lunch at Surf Side Diner, owned by our friend Dan Ponton. Classic and comfortable with the best lunch food in town. I think our store is a great hangout, literally everyone comes in and shops, chats and laughs with us all day long. A walk on Worth Avenue is always an eye candy pleasure with its history and beauty. We love old Palm Beach and wherever that still exists is where we gravitate towards.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our parents are everything to us. They have both passed but everyday we quote them, tell stories about them, and talk to them. They were a dynamic duo of strength, perseverance and true love. They taught us everything that we show in our everyday lives in business, family and friendships. Without them we would not be the women we are today.
