We had the good fortune of connecting with Coree Aussant and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Coree, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I grew up as a people pleaser. I always made decisions based on what other people thought I should do or what they thought was best for me. My early life was spent gathering degrees and certifications to further myself in the corporate world. As I continued down this path, I became increasingly anxious throughout the days. Although I was excelling in my work, I was deeply unhappy. I began reassessing my decisions and the path they had taken me down.
After several challenging years of soul searching and growth, I realized that I was out of alignment. I was not living my life on my terms. I began making changes, some drastic. It was time to discover who I was. I found myself traveling down a new path of healing. Yoga, meditation, breath work, energy healing, herbal medicine, astrology and spiritual guidance were all stops along this path. My anxiety eventually became an occasional visitor. I was finding joy in the little things I had forgotten about while on the first path.
I began gathering certifications again, but this time on my terms. I pursued classes, trainings and mentors that excited me and improved my well being. I became a certified Kundalini Yoga + Meditation teacher. I continued learning and received my Level 1 + 2 Reiki Certification. I dove deep into herbal medicine after experiencing its healing benefits and enrolled in herbal medicine courses with world renowned teachers Rosemary Gladstar, Dr Aviva Romm, and others. I dove head first into the world of astrology and discovered my unique natal chart and how it influences all aspects of my life.
Before I knew it, I had created a whole new career for myself. And I wanted to share my experiences and everything that I had learned with others. I wanted them to feel the way I felt. I knew first hand how hard it can be to make transformational changes in life. Self-doubt, lack of support, judgement from others, and confusion can hinder the process. But I now had the experience, wisdom and strategies to help others through the process. And that is how Karma Wellness was created.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I come from a long line of entrepreneurs. My great grandfather owned a hotel. My grandparents owned a restaurant. My parents owned a furniture and upholstery business. So it only makes sense that I continue the tradition. My husband and I opened a few restaurants throughout the years so I was familiar with the process of creating a business from scratch. I knew how to write a business plan, set up financing, and develop systems to get started. But this new business, Karma Wellness, was very different from a systems run restaurant.
I learned to trust my instincts. I learned that following someone else’s practices did not always work for my business. It could not fit into someone else’s box. No matter how hard I tried, it never worked. And this is the essence of Karma Wellness. I want to help people build their own box. To learn that they do not have to, and should not, fit into someone else’s. It is not always easy and can be challenging, which is where Karma Wellness comes in.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Massachusetts is a beautiful state full of history, culture and great food. Our first stop would be Lennox where we would take in a play at the Shakespeare & Company Theater. Then we would enjoy a delicious home cooked Italian dinner at Frankie’s Ristorante in downtown Lennox. The next day would be spent walking through the exhibits at MASS MoCA (Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art) in North Adams. Eventually we would make our way to the Northampton area for breakfast and coffee at Jake’s leading to a full day of picnicking and hiking one of the many trails on the Mt. Tom State Reservation. A trip to Massachusetts would not be complete without visiting Cape Cod and its beautiful beaches and history. We would end our travels with a few days in Brewster, MA relaxing on the beach at Paine’s Creek and enjoying fresh seafood from The Brewster Fish House.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband has been my greatest support on this journey of self discovery. He has been by my side through the hard days and the good. He has always encouraged me to take risks, supported me in all my decisions, and was there to pick me up if I fell. But most of all, he is always there to celebrate the successes, no matter how small.
And along with my husband, I’m thankful to my daughters who have put up with my endless ramblings of my newest obsession, the many experiments I put them through when learning something new, and the constant invites to practice with me. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
