We had the good fortune of connecting with Corey Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Corey, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
This is a question that often comes up. The answer is easy. When you can look back at your work and see progression, improvement, and detail that means there is still a long journey ahead. If you have bottomed-out and feel that you have maximized all potential whether creating income and/or creativity, it may be time to step away.
The key is know that you can never retire from your purpose no matter how much you attempt to walk away.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My photography career started years ago with an off then on again love affair. I would shoot then put the camera down, shoot again then put the camera down until the pandemic hit and need a creative outlet to express myself. When I started back, it was not easy, I would contact local agencies, and get no reply. I want message models, and get no reply. Until all of a sudden, someone took a chance to shoot with me. Amazingly, the pictures we took ended up being published in a New York based magazine. Then more models begin to contact me about shooting, and all of a sudden, my weekends were filling up with shoots.
One of the main lessons, I learned that everything in life has a purpose and a time. If you love what you do, then live for it. Great things will always be destined for you.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Kansas City, we are known for 3 things BBQ, Jazz, and Culture. I would definitely take them to Q39, the best BBQ in Town for a grand meal. In addition to the WWII Museum, Nelson Atkins Museum, and Weston Bend State Park. For a little night life scene, we would enjoy an evening of Jazz at the Work Famous Blue Room, where such legends as Duke Ellington and Charlie Park played.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I ‘d love to first thank my loving family for giving me the encourage and belief to keep shooting even when no one believed in me. My first mentor, Paul Andrews and also Michael Johnson, photographer who give me excellent critique to drive me to have a better understanding of this thing called Art.
