We had the good fortune of connecting with Cortney V and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cortney, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
The balance is a place where many creatives have trouble with, especially when urges come at the most random moment in your day. Its been times I put my energy into work where I am mentally exhausted with the idea of even starting, which is the hardest yet easiest factor with finding balance. I have learned to account for my time and hold expectations for myself, setting realistic goals for yourself and achieving them ! Thats key, and once it happens you then begin to find stability within the two. Although, we all live different lives and have different pace, we all have the choice to make a choice for ourselves because that is all you can control. Balance comes when there are boundaries , and expectations made by the expectee.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a professional but I also am a creative. I enjoy podcasting and opening uncomfortable conversations to spark dialogue. I enjoy writing, reading, painting, and drawing/sketching. I took art class in my undergrad and appreciated the process of sketching and how to make objects 3D. Although, it was not easy I was able to push through and remember why I started.
And for what I want the world to know about me, Cortney V. is my creativity, what I stand for, and how I will always be unapologetically me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would say we would go to the beach ! I love the water and my best friend loves it too with seafood. WE could possibly to a brunch right after a spa in the morning. Get dress again and go out for lunch and possibly a club or bar that night. My best friend and I likes to enjoy the outside life, nightlife, so something adventurous yet fun is a good time.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Good question. I would have to say the book “The Artists Way” written by Julia Cameron really change my views on many things within life but really how and why I perceive life the way I once did. The book dissects about you in increments, it isn’t shameful but a feel of validation that this too shall pass, giving yourself that power back , that this is your life !
