We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Kemp Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The mission of Woman 2 Women, LLC is to empower and inspire women and teen girls. We seek to achieve this goal by helping black girls to recognize and break the cycle of negative behavior that when left unchecked, can impede their growth to becoming their full and authentic selves. Woman 2 Women was brought to fruition by its founder, who overcame her own life challenges and recognized similar obstacles in the lives of the young girls around her. What some refer to as a ‘generational curse’, we regard as ‘generational tradition’ that can be transcended. Woman 2 Women, managed by Courtney, JoVonnda, and Tahysha, helps young black girls and women recognize their own life challenges and create a unity of sisterhood that reflects strength and positivity that paints a mural for our young black girls.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Woman 2 Women, LLC is a faith-based, multigenerational organization that serve women and young girls of color in South Florida. Our excitement stems from seeing the fruition of God’s assignment for Woman 2 Women. Our motto is Encourage, Enlighten, and Empower. Through our faithful attendees and the communities we go out to for our ‘Evolve pop-ups, we witness their transformation from being educated (enlighten), participation in activities (encouragement), and affirming others of the God’s Good News (empowerment). Leading a faith-based organization requires patience and understanding of the realities of today’s world. Challenges like lack of attendance, subjectivity and apprehension from other denominations, imposter syndrome, and much more. By trusting the process, standing on our faith, and relying on each other, we have overcame every challenge. Lessons learned includes realizing that even when the results are not vivid or feelings of giving up emerge, we continue to persevere because we keep in remembrance that through God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). The logo shows one woman who has overcame her challenges and becomes who God has called her to be, presenting the next woman with the crown of strength to become.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Depending the day our friend arrives to Miami, the first stop would be to our gospel-filled church. After church, we would grab lunch or dinner at our favorite restaurant-winery, Cooper’s Hawk located in Pembroke Pines. Following throughout, we would participate in a yoga session with our mind, body, and soul rejuvenator, Miss Brittany Bridges of SoulFlowYo Miami. At our favorite park, Morningside, we lay by the water and soaking up at the sun while enjoying serenity. For a mid-week comfort bite, we will check out Joan Champion Robinson at wing spot in Davie for some saucy wings and refreshing soft drinks. Additional activities we will do include visit Hollywood beach, Oleta River State park for water kayaking, Sparez for bowling, and much more.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Woman 2 Women, LLC dedicates its existence to Barbara Davis Sands, the late best friend of the founder Courtney Kemp Smith. She was a friend, mentor, and most importantly a sister. Barbara assisted Courtney in her journey to BECOME the woman whom God says she is. Through Courtney, many women and young girls now realize ‘who they are’ and ‘who God calls them to be.’ It is because of Barbara´s guidance that Woman 2 Women provides the fundamentals for all women and young girls to lead.
