We had the good fortune of connecting with Cristy Trabadass and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cristy, how does your business help the community?
When discussing Social Impact in filmmaking I think it is one of those things that can get into self-aggrandizing territory. At the end of the day, all filmmakers want is to make movies about the things they are passionate about and the worlds they are obsessed with. As long as I tell stories that can help people heal a feel seen, I will be happy.
However, on a larger scale, I am fascinated and inspired by the underground youth subcultures in South Florida. My goal is to use my businesses to help assist in creating a sustainable film industry here. To empower young artists and filmmakers to follow their dreams and know they can achieve them at home.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is heavily influenced by the underground; sex, drugs, and hip-hop, and how these influences affect young people, especially young women. My brand is bold, blunt, and graphic feminity that packs a punch. Most of my stories are based on real experiences and I want them to remain as authentic as possible. Real and raw storytelling with a focus on character drama is my jam.
I am super excited about the films my team and I have developed and started production on thus far. We are capturing the rollercoaster that the South Florida hip-hop scene in a narrative feature, entitled Savage Lands. We are set to start production this winter! Along with my team at Smoke Stacks Studios, I have written 4 features and a pilot since COVID began, and I couldn’t be more excited to start the process of putting them on the big screen.
