We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Bohanon Haupt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Crystal, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My husband and I traveled to Texas and while out there I found all the boutiques that I enjoyed shopping on line with. We didn’t have a local boutique with a punchy western fashion vibe and I wanted to bring that here. I wanted to establish a fun shopping experience that the town would be sure to talk about. and I feel that’s what we have created. A fun unforgettable shopping experience with a wide range of fashion pieces that I have mixed in to give it a punchy vibe.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started Gypsy Outlaw & Co. by setting up at a pop up event with two 6ft tables. I continued to do events and started to grow after each one. I then was able to purchase a trailer to be a bit more mobile and create a brand and shopping experience that people would learn to recognize. I started traveling to apparel markets out of state to really focus on my brand and what exactly i wanted Gypsy Outlaw to be. I handpick every piece that I stock in my store, from every pair of earrings to every graphic tee. Its a very eclectic style. I tie in several styles to make it a western vibe. Whenever girls are heading to a concert, Nashville, bachelorette, vegas or rodeo we are their shopping headquarters.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow, I am born and raised here so this is all my friends and I know. This might be tough! Boating, we would definitely spend a day on the boat, bar hop on the boat in downtown Fort Myers. Dinner would be in Naples at Mercato. Tampa and Miami are just a two hour drive to that is always on the list to visit and hang out with friends come in town.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to have a few people that I could say a big thank to but overall my husband was my number one. He saw my vision and what I wanted to create and did just that! We started as a mobile boutique and he built out a 1974 Airstream and created the cutest shopping environment. We were friends with a local business owner who allowed me to have pop up events at our local bar and restaurant. Having those once a month really got me noticed and people always remembered that airstream.
