We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Crystal, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
My son has seen the sacrifices I have made. The constant sleepless nights . Taking care of him while simultaneously doing work . He’s seen me work and hard and then enjoy the fruits of it all.

The most important thing I want him to know is – find his passion, his purpose and that thing that he loves and work so hard on it , because it’s yours . Don’t give up because things will get rough. And when they do always know that with persistence and a goal in mind you can reach the heights you want to no matter what.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Getting here was not and still is not easy at times. I love working ceramics and clay and though I made that hard decision about leaving a very good paying stable job as a graphic designer to now work for myself I don’t regrets at all.

I had to over come the challenge of not having that stable income every month when I was starting out . Being your own boss meant that it’s no longer 9-5 . You get up create your own day and time and sometimes because it’s out passion that involves being present most of the day.

Constantly thinking of ways to change or to innovate . Come up with new ideas, engage with customers and find new methods of advertising .

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ll definitely go to the wreck bar. Very entertaining and I love seeing the girls swim in the water so effortlessly and beautiful.

Wynwood walls for some arty inspiration

A pottery course at Sarah’s ceramics and The artisans playhouse for some creative fun.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I honestly don’t have one particular person that comes in mind. Rather I have several. It comes in the form of my lil creative family on Instagram . The other small business entrepreneurs that I bounce ideas off of , that give me lovely words of encouragement about my work and also my customers . Without their support and without them going along on this journey with me buying my pieces ,commenting and wearing their pieces proudly I probably wouldn’t be as successful as I am now .
