Meet Cynthia Cespedes | Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cynthia Cespedes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cynthia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
C&J Dream Designs blossomed in the midst of the lowest point in my life which I call “the dark night of my soul” (San Juan de la Cruz). A few years ago, I lost someone very dear to me unexpected. This situation led me to a dark hole where negative thoughts took over my mind; spiraling me into what felt like an endless depression. Remarkably, in the face of this crisis, I managed to maintain my job as an Accountant, grow my career, and finish my Master’s Degree in Accounting. Sadly, all this professional success did not lift me out of the hole I was in. During the pandemic, TikTok introduced me to the world of floristry. I became fascinated by it and invested a lot of hours learning more through TikTok tutorials. At Around the same time, something else happened, I started to receive spiritual tools to learn how to heal and work with my emotions. I learned that It takes a lot of internal work to rebuild ourselves, to change our beliefs, and to accept situations we cannot change. Before I knew it, I started feeling alive again, and for the first time since the tragic incident, I realized I was starting to feel a hint of passion and purpose. Grief and trauma have an interesting way of gifting you the opportunity to build yourself up again, and thankfully floristry gave me an outlet to do so as well.
Once I felt the spark coming back, I realized it was time to move on from the past and trust that there’s a brighter future ahead. It wasn’t easy, but I began to process and channel my emotions creatively through my crafts bringing color, peace, and light into my world. That is when I felt the calling to take steps in the direction of my happiness and make it my own business.
So, here I am, a woman full of imperfections, willing to continue finding ways and learning how to connect with my emotions. Today I can say, I have started to live again to be more aware on the present moment and to let go and trust that the best is yet to come.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In C&J Dream Designs, we are meticulous about every detail of our gifts. From the quality of the flowers, to the small crowns on each design; we make sure to put a lot of love, passion, and dedication into our work. From the start of every project, we stay in constant communication with the client coordinating the details and making sure the gift will meet their expectations. My goal is always to reflect the feelings the client would like to express through the design of the arrangement. I feel so fulfilled when I can create something that brings my clients joy. This inner-satisfaction is what drives me to keep improving my technique and product quality.
Since my business is just starting, I have not generated enough profit to have my own studio; However, I am excited about the future and have faith that the best is yet to come.
I think success is often measured by how quickly people achieve what their desire. I measure success differently though; I measure it by how much I have enjoyed the journey and learned in the process. Throughout the time I’ve been working on C&J Dream Designs, I have realized that the biggest obstacle is myself – my doubts, my fears, and any negative thoughts, and that the only way past those emotions is to go through them. I recognize I have to feel them, acknowledge them, and make a conscious choice about which voice I am listening to in the present moment. Through my crafts, I have taken time to reflect, acknowledge, and to let go of the doubts and fears that kept holding me back. I have learned to focus on the present moment and to listen to the positive voice keeps moving me forward.
The investment in my business has not been only financial, but also timely and emotionally taxing. As a business owner, struggle and hard work is inevitable, but the lessons learned and love from my clients have made it all worthwhile. If there’s one has has thing, I’d like people to learn from my brand story is that there is always a better future ahead if you’re willing to take another step.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Thanks to all my family and friends, that were there for me when I needed them to most. Also, a great thank you to my bosses for always supporting me. Specially, to my kids that are my everything in life, my reason to keep going, and to my best friend, Elcy, for sharing her knowledge and spiritual tools with me.
