We had the good fortune of connecting with Daejah Pierre Jules and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daejah, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Over time, I think I began to value impact and legacy while working with people of integrity over doing things for money or titles. With this, I began to say no to many things that were not fueling or challenging me. I have to work to pay bills but I have to perform to stay sane. Even though the line between play and work tends to blend when pursuing your passion , I like to recharge by doing intentional relaxation, like walking, meditation, and drinking tea.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m mostly excited about challenging myself to be in uncomfortable positions, like working alongside musicians and finally creating a project of my own. Honestly, in my journey I have fallen and stumbled so many times that it’s embarrassing, but looking at this journey as something that I can’t quit, and trust me I’ve tried, I’ve felt like the stage calls me. I feel I have so much to learn but through prayer and support, I found that being in my ugliness and imperfection has bought me some of my greatest work. It was far from easy, but I can only give credit to God by speaking to me through people because I do feel that I write to heal myself and others. I hope that when people see my work they can feel the authenticity in everything. My story is raw, straightforward and black.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In the city of Miami, there’s everything, but as a native, the Krispy Kreme on 163rd street is life changing. I personally love the Sunny Isles beach, while also buying mangos from the local seller. Personally, off of the street from a person is best, but stealing from your neighbor is also a recommended option. Going to Bayside to watch the water or headed to Wynwood for an escape room would be great.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The black and brown community at Florida Atlantic University. There’s so much talent in the community there that made me feel welcomed and that I can pursue my dreams while getting a degree. Also, my chosen family, they know who they are and I am eternally grateful for those who repost my content, attend my shows, and encourage me when I’m doubtful.
