We had the good fortune of connecting with Daenia Ashpole and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daenia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?

I wanted a business that catered to the needs I had; a professional working in the management consulting field at the time which took me beyond traditional working hours. However, I still needed to access beauty and spa services at convenient times. At the time it seemed that beauty salons and spas were all open at the same time that most people are at work which didn’t quite make sense to me. I believed there was a whole set of people being inconvenienced because of this model and I wanted to cater to those people.

I have also been very adept at spotting opportunities and experimenting with non-traditional business concepts. I consider myself an innovator and try to explore all opportunities to innovate while serving people. The thought process at the time was “let me try and see”

What should our readers know about your business?

Day and Night Beauty is Jamaica’s first full-service Salon & Spa providing access to quality beauty and spa services beyond the traditional opening hours. We aim to provide a suite of signature services, a pleasant and highly- trained team of professionals and a relaxing atmosphere, because everyone deserves to look and feel their best without having to compromise on the things that matter to them most.

At our core, we believe in empowerment of ALL people which is supported not only by the flexibility we offer to our clients, but also to our staff and partner therapists who can also opt to choose working hours based on their schedules. This allows our therapists to capitalize on building their brands within our business while maintaining other jobs, both within and outside the beauty and spa industry

We are also big on giving back to the community, we take our role as nation builders very seriously and dedicate a portion of our earnings each year to worthy causes, spanning areas such as special needs, teenage pregnancy and breast cancer awareness.

I think the most valuable lesson we have learnt is the power of giving back. Business is inherently hard as it requires tremendous creativity and constant pivoting; however, seeing the direct impact of your business on the lives of others can serve as an unparallelled motivator in difficult times. This was particularly evident during the COVID-19 pandemic when curfews and lockdowns challenged our business model tremendously.

If there was one thing I would like the world to know about Day and Night Beauty is that in the near future we will be a globally renowned brand, while maintaining our core values of kindness, integrity, fairness and respect and, of course, profit!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this article to my business partner, Adonia Chin, who believes in me wholeheartedly and support even the craziest concepts that I have. I would also like to dedicate this article to my friends and family, particularly Lacey and Tammie, my fiance, Richard, my wonderful staff members and my clients without whom business would not be possible. All these persons/groups continue to inspire me each day, and keep me pushing despite obstacles. I really do have a solid support system.
