We had the good fortune of connecting with Dagoberto Cruz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dagoberto, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
Debt is Bad, avoid it at all costs.

This statement is overused, Debt a Tool in my opinion. If you can use debt in your business to advance and grow… DO IT! But be careful, business is about having plans and taking calculated risks. Using that business loan or line of credit for personal purposes can destroy what you’ve built.

What should our readers know about your business?
Comfort Insurance & Finances we’re different because we care. We have a proprietary marketing strategy, it’s the way we truly believe you should insure yourself. It’s an ideology I’m very proud of establishing:

-Health
-Life
-Home
-Auto

Health insurance because if you don’t have health, you have no life. Medical debt can cripple you into bankruptcy. Life Insurance can be a way to warranty our duty as a father, husband, sibling, or business owner. We’re all going to pass, lets make sure our mission is taken care of the day we’re not here anymore. Then and only then, should you insure your Home and Auto. And if you have a business, that goes 1st!
The sad truth is that most of United States insures their property and or liabilities first, and only look to insure themselves with the leftovers. It shouldn’t be like that, Pay yourself first!

I started this business at 20 years old, married and with 2 kids. Then at 21, three children depended on my wife and I. A few years with the company in 2017 my fourth child was born and forced me to work on my craft with much more intensity. I was 23 with 4 children, a business and married. No, definitely not the easiest of situations. The fuel that keeps me driven through adversity is My Family, regardless of the failure or rejections encountered that day; my wife and kids remind me tomorrow will be better.

Lessons Learned:
#1. Not everyone is in it for the same reasons you are.
#2 Be careful who you let into your business or into your circle.
#3 Patience, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Miami! We live where everyone vacations. Breakfast first, any Cuban Bakery will get you’re Miami Vibes started in the morning.
While in Miami you have visit Beach, the way the sun reflects on shore hits different when you see it in person. After some sun and waves we have to visit Smith and Wollensky at least once for a Good Meal with a Beautiful View of South Pointe Bay. Those views can get expensive so we’ll do dinner in Doral at Bulla Bar & Grill their Croquettes are to die for! I’ll make sure to pass by Comfort Insurance & Finances’ headquarters in Doral to make sure he has his life insurance coverage in place before going to Bulla just in case, you never know.

For the next few days meals would vary trying different hot spots in Miami to make times memorable.

We’d definitely make sure to include a visit to Tap42 in the itinerary to keep things interesting. They have so much variety and options on the food and drink menu you never know what you could end up trying.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve been doing some sort of business since I was 6 years old. My entrepreneurial spirit I’m sure came from My Dad. Although I haven’t seen him since 12 years old, I’m aware that doing business, came from him. When he left, that placed me as the man of the house at a very young age. My mother, Maria Martinez, was the one to take care of us, her four kids. As the man of the house, it was my duty to make sure that my sisters were all taken care of, if that meant changing a diaper or two. So be it! Those days are the ones that I remember when things don’t go as planned. As you get older, you’ll realize that more frequent than not, things do not go as planned. My mother raised me to be the man I am now, regardless of the situation it’s necessary to keep pushing. It builds resilience, character and makes you appreciate the milestones much more when you accomplish something you only dreamed of. But don’t be mistaken, my mom always told me that resilience keeps you shinning even when time has played a factor in making all the other Diamonds dull. Resilience will keep you marching towards your new goals even though you recently accomplished previous ones. Last but not least, I’d like to thank Steve Reif, My Mentor/Big Brother, from Big Brother’s Big Sister’s Mentorship program. Steve showed me the world can knock you down, but it’s Necessary to have the courage to keep going! Regardless of the outcome, if you fall and fail. Get up, clean yourself up and keep on trying!
