We had the good fortune of connecting with Daina Levy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
There really wasn’t any thought put into it. I studied culinary arts at The Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale and always had a passion for baking and decorating cookies. I figured I would do orders for friends for special occasions. It was the encouragement from family and friends that prompted me to raise the bar and push myself to what Forchin Cookies & Cakes is today.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Forchin Cookies originated from my maiden name, Forchin. My specialty is homemade sugar cookies decorated by hand. While this was the true inspiration behind the business, my cakes are quickly becoming the most popular items, which gives truth to the claim that you can have your cake and eat it too! I’m extremely meticulous when it comes to baking and decorating. I’ve ruined many batches of cookies and cakes simply because they didn’t meet my standards. As they say, if at first you don’t succeed, try again. I stand behind my baking 100% and customer satisfaction is paramount to Forchin Cookies & Cakes.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
There’s so much to do in South Florida. One of my favorite parts to visit is Wynwood. From the amazing artwork to the chill vibe and awesome restaurants, this is definitely my first stop. If I’m in the mood for Mediterranean, I’ll hit Mandolin Aegean Bistro (Branzino is the bomb). Mister 01 pizzas are also a fav with spicy olive oil. Of course, for the best Poke around, I stop by Mana Poke where my friend and chef, Geoff Lee, prepares custom bowls for my tastebuds. I also like to entertain with my family so when I’m not out eating and drinking, you’ll find us at home gathered around the grill enjoying each others company.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband, Stuart, for always encouraging me and giving me ideas. He’s my taste tester or Director of Research and Development, as he puts it. I’d also like to thank my entire family, in-laws and friends who have supported this idea and helped to get me where I am today and of course my customers who enjoy coming back for more!
