We had the good fortune of connecting with Daisy Diaz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daisy, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I’ve always been very dedicated and passionate about my work and projects since I opened a business in high school. I was blessed in knowing what I wanted to do at a young age and my studies and interests centered around the arts. I started painting ceramics when I was only fourteen and today own Frascione Gallery together with my husband. The balance is easy when the line between work and fun is blurred. The day the first of my four children was born I knew I would need to adapt the long hours as my family came first and managed correctly it works out. The children are inevitably curious and drawn to our unique business and often travel with us for work. My husband is the fifth-generation art dealer in our family and perhaps one of the children will continue the tradition.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Frascione Gallery is a family business that originated in Naples, Italy in 1893. We are now the fifth generation of art dealers originally specialized in European Old Master paintings from the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods. My husband carefully curates outstanding masterpieces and we are very pleased to see many of our paintings in museums worldwide today. We also enjoy working with avid art collectors and helping them cultivate their private collections. With the new gallery in Palm Beach, Frascione Gallery is now working with contemporary artists and we often pair Old Masters with modern works of art. Art can have a timeless dialogue that spans centuries when juxtaposed. In our business, we are constantly learning and researching past artists and discovering new talent. Looking to the future, we have started working with several institutions and look forward to upcoming educational exhibits designed to provide special programs and research access for young students in the arts.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m originally a farmgirl from Homestead so my happy places are usually outdoors and Miami has so much to offer.
Drinks: The Cleat Bar inside of the Bill Baggs Park (El Farito) offers incredible spicy margaritas at sunset with views of Stiltsville and sailboats in the harbor.
Eat: (Italian) Sapore di Mare in the Grove, (Pizza) O’Munaciello on Coral Way, (Greek) Mandolin in the Design District, (Meat) Graziano’s by Tropical Park or the Gables, (Cuban) Islas Canarias
Hang out: The Redlands has so much to offer that I can easily spend a day down there at El Paso Ranch riding horses, buying orchids at Banjong Orchids, picking strawberries, and staying cool with a fresh milkshake….
To do: Visit Fairchild and get lost wondering the many paths that lead to the butterfly pavilion.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Since the day we met almost twenty years ago in Italy, my husband, Federico, has been the person who has allowed me to navigate the path to achieve my dreams. It wasn’t always easy to start and succeed with my own business abroad but he was always by my side never losing faith in me. All of the success is due to his unwavering encouragement. As our family grew and we found ourselves with four beautiful children, Federico’s love and support made all the adventures of work and parenthood worthwhile. We have recently opened our first US gallery in Palm Beach and look forward to the next exciting chapters as we do this together.
