We had the good fortune of connecting with Dan Szyller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dan, why did you pursue a creative career?
Hello, thank you for having me here. I pursued a musical career by pure instinct really…Since I was a young boy, I was fascinated by music and bands like The Doors, Iron Maiden, Pink Floyd really stood out…I remember picking up the guitar and feeling like that was my best buddy…Bands from Brazil where I’m from were also huge influences, like Legião Urbana, Caetano Veloso, Ira and others…I basically have a need to express myself and by discovering my voice, I am now putting all those ideas to life. The Celestial Immigrant was a great debut album and now a new single will follow called Drifter in the Sun.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, my beginning is a very humble one. Growing up in Brazil in poverty and loads of personal issues…We immigrated to the US very young and I honestly can’t remember how many places I lived in my life.My art is sacred to me. I am a huge fan of music and my debut album ‘The Celestial Immigrant’ is very personal and introspective. It talks about those experiences moving from place to place and always feeling like an outsider. I used a lot of fantasy and allegory to swim through those themes in the album.I work very hard everyday so that my project grows and each step is celebrated. In an era of so many marketing-driven artists, I feel I’m in a way bringing something to the table that’s poetic, real and authentic. Drifter in the Sun will be the new single and that kept me busy…

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to Vila Madalena neighbourhood in São Paulo…so much to do in one place. A place where all bohemians meet, eat and drink, have a great time really! Loads of bars, restaurants and concerts…Art is everywhere there…

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well, I think I need to say thank you to Cindi Nene and Nicolas Mahieu for their efforts to help me. Also, I would like to say thanks to my keyboard player, Amaury Cha for sticking with me for so long. Also, my producer, Alberto Quintero, for the amazing artistic guidance under his label called Lania Records. Martin from Dachance music… Also a shoutout to Mark Berry and Duane from AMG!
