We had the good fortune of connecting with Danelle and Michele Pino and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danelle and Michele, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Our dad, who loved art and painted whenever he could, influenced our love of paintings and all other expressions of art. We started going to art openings and galleries with him at a very young age. The older we got, the more Michele and I enjoyed meeting artists and art collectors. We developed a passion for murals and all kinds of urban art and decided to open a gallery to give more artists a platform to showcase their art.
Social Impact: how does your business impact help the community or the world?
WYN 317 Gallery is a place where artists can showcase and sell their works, interact with other artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts. The gallery also helps the community by offering frequent artist-led workshops teaching different art forms. Members of the community really enjoy interacting with artists and learning their crafts.
Risk taking: how do you think about risk, what role has taking risks played in your life/career?
Without risk taking, there would be no WYN 317 Gallery. We had never owned a business nor knew how to run a gallery. Taking risks has allowed us to grow and learn tremendously while doing something we love.
If you are a parent, what do you think is the most important thing you’ve done as a parent in terms of the impact on your children?
Neither one of us have children yet but if we are parents one day, we would like to encourage them to appreciate and know art the way our parents did for us. We are firm believers that art is vital to the well-being of everyone including children.
What is the most important factor behind your success / the success of your brand?
Our success comes from determination combined with a good eye and a keen sense for visual aesthetics and artistic merit.
How to know whether to keep going or to give up?
Giving up is not an option for us. We’ve worked too hard and have come too far to quit. Ups and downs will always come and go but it’s ok as long as we keep moving forward. The main thing is to stay positive and believe in yourself.
Work/life balance: how has your balance changed over time? How do you think about the balance?
We believe that balance is very important to having a life well lived. The best way for us to do so is to take time to do the things we love including going to museums, traveling, getting enough sleep and rest, socializing with our family and friends, and volunteering in causes whose goals empower women.
What makes you happy? Why?
We are happiest when we bring people together to learn about art, enjoy art and interact with artists. This makes us happy because it provides us with a sense of fulfillment and pleasure because we share our passion for art with others.
Why did you pursue an artistic or creative career?
Besides loving everything connected to the art world, we saw it as a way to exchange our art with other countries in the world.
How do you define success?
We believe that success is always challenging ourselves to do our best and constantly work towards change for the better.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

From the beginning, we were encouraged and were able to continue living our dream since artists were grateful to have a gallery that became an important platform for them to exhibit, exchange ideas and interact with each other. We also love being able to help art enthusiasts and collectors to find just the right art work to enhance their collections.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We love and would definitely recommend seeing all the art museums and private collections in Miami especially our favorites, Superblue, Artechouse, Rubell Museum, The Bass, and PAMM. A mural tour or walking around Wynwood is a must. A visit to the Design District for shopping, viewing public art and having a delicious lunch or dinner at one of the fabulous restaurants in the area is always fun. If you have more time, enjoy strolling through “Little Havana” with all it’s ethnic foods, dancing and its own share of murals and galleries. Other suggestions would be a visit to Vizcaya, an Art Deco tour on Ocean Drive in South Beach, or even a boat ride in Biscayne Bay to see the famous Stiltsville houses built right on the water.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We dedicate this shoutout to our very special dad, Raul Pino, for all his love, support and for teaching us all about art and it’s beautiful influence on people and the world.
