We had the good fortune of connecting with Dani Marco and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dani, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by strong women and feminist men. A single cab flying by on that hour of morning just before the city begins to bustle. Ice cream dripping on the ground. Surface oils on a pond creating shapes and color. Color, color, COLOR! that inspires me — the absence of color. My puppy’s eyes. A random line I hear in a passing conversation…. Oh, I could go on, and on…. Life, science, travel, art. Not to be cryptic, but it’s all so inspiring and ever-changing.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I don’t believe that anything in particular “sets me apart” from other artists, but my experiences of extensive world travel, life, and culture certainly inform my art. I have many passions, namely: dance, acting, and activism. I am excited to be seen on the scene as an open-hearted creative who is down to collaborate and up to be heard! I think persistence is everything. I know that I have had many a day when I am really hard on myself, but even painting a line on a canvas is a day I can say, “I painted today!” It’s about celebrating the small victories!! My brand are mostly female portraits of dancers/people in movement. I vacillate between hyper-realistic portraiture on canvas and a bit more animated line painting on plastic.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I live in the great city of Manhattan. I usually tell friends to do the touristy “stuff” during the day, and I’ll show you the city after that! I believe walking around neighborhoods and boroughs is the best way to feel the vibes of the city. For example, the Lower East Side feels very different than the Upper East Side. You can eat your way through Manhattan. I’m a vegan, so, my favorite restaurants are quite clean (eating). I’d make reservations (ALWAYS reservations in NYC!!) at my favorite decadent vegan spot, “Avant Garden”, and I’d jump around imbibing matcha tea lattes (with oat mylk). We’d hit up the latest museum installations, peruse the galleries in Chelsea, and hop to Queens for museum visits as well, take in mad people watching, and bring my pup out to run in a grassy area, and, and ,and… Too bad she’s only staying a week! 😉

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am going to Shoutout to Kristin Zahra. She can work an Apple Pencil unlike any other. She is a beautiful artist and has supported my foray into the digital world. Without her, I’d be trying to acrylic paint my ipad!
